Hi all,

I have a 199B spitting fork oil out of the vent holes in the caps. I am used to a little around the holes but these are spitting oil onto the tank and engine etc.

- Any ideas how to fix this?

- How do the caps come apart to clean the vent valve?

Thanks!

hello ive never known this to happen may be theres to much oil in the forks. should only be 180ml in each fork. to clean the fork caps take them off there should be a tiny nut on the bottom undo it be carfull theres a small spring and ball bearing inside soak them in some wd 40 then dry spoke the vent hole with some thin wire then put them together. but my gess is theres to much oil in the forks.

Thanks for the reply!

I changed the fork seals and put 180ml of 10w in each fork leg. I will drain and recheck. I too have never seen this before. I took the nut off the fork cap and the spring and flat disc. I can't see any ball bearing. I have swapped the caps with my other 199B so will test ride and see. Thanks again.

hi,

happy to be corrected by those in the know but i believe if you have the washer and a spring then you have the earlier type, the ball and spring type have the countersunk screw in the top. the washer and spring type flap valve arrangement were fitted to the earlier bikes. however i would guess the problem is the same though regardless of type, it is probably too much oil

i hope this helps

Very nice Bondy! Should look great when it's back together!

Don't think the washer and spring are old style fork caps. I have 3 B's and all are the same?? Either way new caps fixed the problem. Thanks everyone!
