248 Opinions Please.

In my search for another twinshock project I've been offered an early 80's 248, it's a non runner but basically all there, any opinions on what to look out for on this model? strong vs weak points etc..? And I know it's subjective, but how do the early 80's Cota's measure up as a twinshock? Thanks.

Hi.

I'm currently building a 182 248 - red frame, white tank, road registered.

Simple to work on, requires puller for mag flywheel.

Spares fairly easy to come by, In Motion and Spanish specialists.

Obviously not ridden it yet, but quite a few 248's early and late in our club. So still popular.

I had a 349 back in the early 80's, apart from very tight turns they are a very good handling bike with a long wheel base, check the top tube for cracks as the silver engine struts would work loose and cause cracking due to frame flex, during the 2 years I had mine it suffered no cracks but the struts did require regular attention but several other friends with the same machine did have problems so it worth being aware of the issue.

That said I would love to have one again if one came my way, they were about the best looking bikes available at the time I bought mine new (IMO) plus Ulf Karlson had won the World Champs and Vesty the SSDT.
