bultaco82 Posted April 7, 2014 Report Share Posted April 7, 2014 I have a 2011 Sherco 290 with a leaking right fork. It started leaking at the end of the season so I figured a new seal was in order.This winter I pulled the forks off, drained and tore them down. The cartridge was pumped out and cleaned. New seals installed, forks rebuilt and filled. I installed them and continued working on other maintenance issues. The bike has been on a stand with the forks up in the air. Last night I noticed the fork was leaking again. It has not had any pressure on it yet. I filled it to the Splatshop recommended air gap of 55mm with the fork and cartridge compressed. Being the right fork I would go out for at least a thirty minute ride, you might get lucky. Also a good ride will tell if the forks are overfilled. thats_a_five Posted April 7, 2014 Report Share Posted April 7, 2014 Do you have gaitors or fork socks on the bike? If so, maybe residual oil from the previous seal failure? Did you check for scratches or gouges in the fork tube while you had it apart? I have heard of a small piece of debris getting caught in the lip of the seal resulting in a leak. Old trick was to take a piece of 35mm film negative and slide it between the seal and tube and run it around the fork to clear the debris.
