hi guys

I did my first trial on Sunday in the rain, this was 30 years since I last rode a Sherpa t 350.

I really enjoyed getting back into trials and want to keep on going with it.

I have a Sherco 2004 200 cc 2 stroke.

it has a tubeless tyre on the rear.

I had to remove the tyre to fix a spoke and now the nipples leak all the air out...

can anyone please help me solve this problem????

regards

Asimo

When you fixed the spoke you had to remove the giant rubber band from inside the rim, right? That rim strip must be properly installed into the groove in the rim. They can be very tricky. Jim Snell made a really good video that you can see on youtube.

You can seal the band in with the above sealant. DO NOT use an acetoxy type sealant it will cause severe corrosion

Alternatively replace the band with a screw in valve and coat the wheel well and spoke nipples with a 2 mm layer of sealant, then a couple of layers of PVC tape. The PVC tape stops damage to the sealant when fitting tyre.

I would suggest not using sealant unless there is damage to the rim which is causing the leak. After watching Jim Snell's video I have fitted several rim bands and they all sealed first time. I use tyre fitting gel instead of soapy water though.

Try sealing your rim band with this or, remove the rim band, fit a bolt in valve then smear a 2 mm layer of gutter seal in the wheel well and over the spoke nipples.

When dry over with a couple of layers of PVC tape to protect the sealant when fitting the tyre

Sikflex car windscreen sealant is also OK but DO NOT use acetoxy sealants as the will cause serious corrosion

Being an 04 model chances are it still has the tape with the separate valve stem, spend the £20 & fit the newer type with moulded in stem. Those separate parts are a absolute pain to fit without something moving

Hi Asimo, I posted this a few weeks back and my tyre has stayed up ever since;

My rim was leaking so I removed the rim band that the previous owner had unsuccessfully used Evo-Stick and so cleaned it all off with petrol.

Bought some 'Plumbers Mait' this none setting, water / chemical proof and very very sticky sealing putty,

Spread an ample layer 2 to 3mm thick covering all round the centre of the rim and then refit the rim band.

Pressing the band down into the rim and removing the excess as its squeezed out, this takes a while.

This could seal rims that may in very poor condition. Worth a try.

Result is totally air tight. The nature of this product could be a long lasting cure and because it doesn't set you can still tighten spokes or if you ever need to replace any spokes it can be taken apart and resealed easily.

Cost £3.60 for 750g, got loads left I estimate this size of tub would easily fix 5 wheels.

I guess I just need some friends to use it up.

richt - if you buy some plumbers hemp you will be able to make up some "dog turds" with your spare plumbers mait, for fixing puctures

Don't say that I just fitted a new tyre :o

Sounds a good idea though, Have you tried this?
