You may well find Dexron III ATF gives too sharp clutch take up.

Typically at 90 to 100 degrees C (The temperature of your engine;

D III viscosity is 7 cSt

10w-40 viscosity is 15 cSt

75w gear oil viscosity is 9 cSt

A 10w-40 or 5w-40 oil designed for combined motorcycle engine and transmission will probably give the best all round performance. Something like Putoline light gear oil is also good.

ATF is not recommended by Beta and it is designed for hydraulic systems and clutches that work in a very different way to those found in trials bikes.

Gear oil and ATF are cheap enough to experiment with, see which suits you the most.

Having used ATF a few times and I'm not a fan, it gives a far too grabby clutch for me.

I guess it could be great if you ride like that, but I'm a bit old school and a clutch should feel progressive.

I've found Putoline Nano Trans works for me, once warmed up I don't find it dragging too much and the feel of the clutch action appears much smoother.

Hi,

Im Using Dexron 6... Recomended from the old fellows who ride Betas here...

Is this any better than Dexron 3 ? do you now the viscosity difference from them ?

Light gear oil 75W, from Putoline GRO or Elf is made for the job and the GRO oil for instance, is recommended by GasGas.

Very little drag and smooth clutch.

I wouldn't recommend choosing an oil just because it's cheap.

The oils might be cheap enough to experiment with, but your gearbox isn't.

I'm not against ATF oil but get the right type from the first time. Experimenting with to much different oils could turn out very bad.
