Another Loss To The Sport

The passing of Don Hutchinson two weeks ago at the age of eighty six reduced

the legendary Ilkley Motor Club 'Summer Wine' Ilkley Grand National
organising team of the last millennium down to three. Don Hutchinson arrived
on a motorcycle with his late wife to spectate at a New Year Trial at the
Sun Inn at Norwood and ended up observing for top official Geoff Fletcher.
The Hutchinsons got the trials bug there and then. The former Fleet Air Arm
Petty Officer and latterly an engineer at Vickers Armament became part and
parcel of the Ilkley Grand National and acted as permit seeker and secretary
of the trial for thirty years. Apart from his talents as an organiser Don
distilled firewater of lethal strengths. The writer of this obituary was
official back marker for the I.G.N. and after imbibing Don's samples was
known to overtake competitors at great speed. Indeed one official protest
was received from a competitor. Unfortunately this sad news has surfaced
after the funeral service. R.I.P Don Hutchinson.
