man55le Posted July 18, 2015 Report Share Posted July 18, 2015 I'll start by saying I am a newbie to trials,I didn't get to tinker with the bike at all. Just trying to see if there's a generic issue or problem before I start any teardown. Sometimes a headlight on my bike is bright sometimes not but it seems to always have a illumination..... The brightness does not change with RPM. Didn't know if there was a specific regulator that goes bad or some other issue.... Just reaching out let me know what you guys think? Also, I first bought the bike about a month ago, and I've smelt coolant every once in a while....? Thanks for any help in advance...if somebody is aware of any of these issues and they know what part number has fixed it....ie water pump seal,...headlight regulator part number. tony27 Posted July 19, 2015 Report Share Posted July 19, 2015 If you smell coolant occasionally then it is likely to be from the overflow onto the exhaust Have a look on the main primary drive cover below the water pump & you will see a small drilled hole, this is between the 2 water pump seals & if there any weeping from it you will know if it's coolant or oil. Look up splatshop's site in the relevant drop down section & you'll get an idea of the set up as well as the part numbers & costs if there is a problem Chris at splatshop is worth contacting for advice on any problems, he has a great knowledge of the bikes & quite a few of us in other parts of the world deal with him as our first contact for parts etc It's possible that your light problem is either a dirty earth or connection in the wiring which will also affect the fan speed letting the motor get warmer, chances are the dim light happens at the same time as the smell of coolant Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
copemech Posted July 19, 2015 Report Share Posted July 19, 2015 There is a 12 V regulator in the system, but them lights don't produce much anyway. I have not run them in years, but as I recall the lamp would dim with the fan on, as it consumes a lot of the available power. The fans usually vary speed a bit with rpm.
