Richmond  Motor Club National Reeth Three Day Trial.

Malton’s Ian Austermuhle won the National Reeth Three Day Trial after a tense battle with Richard Sadler and Guy Kendrew. The latter led the 240 competitors on Friday on a single penalty. After a total of ninety three sections the final result was decided after a tiebreaker rule in favour of Austermuhle. Both riders incurred eleven penalties but Sadler dropped three penalties on Saturday, one more than Austermuhle. The first stage of the Auto Cycle Union’s tie breaker ruling is how many sections are ridden without penalty. Sadler rode 88 and Austermuhle 89.  Askrigg motor engineer Phillip Alderson headed the clubman class from former Welsh champion Phil Houghton and West Leeds M.C. member Nigel Crowther.

The trial routes were different each date as was the starting order. The Friday route took in Hurst and Kexwith Moor. Saturday brought in Scott Trial favourite Whaw Bridge, Kexwith Moor and Hurst Moor. After an evening of revelry on Friday evening in the marquee at Parks Field the Richmond Motor Club hosted Landowners and Sponsors at a buffet supper in the marquee where Anne and Claire Sunter created the meals.
