Hi Im looking to get trials bike and wondered if there is a perticular brand that's best for reliability and maintenance free?

I'm thinking 4 stroke, so any opinions welcome.

Anything I should know about beta 4t rev model I think?

Since the air cooled TY250 Yams stopped being made, what you are after does not exist. You are only heading for trouble if you cant be bothered to look after your bike.

Dairy farmers used the old Yams for getting the cows in for milking after they became old hat in the then current trials world. Cow poo rotted out anything that it could, but they stood up to it well. No recent bike will stand the kind of negligence that they would.

Can you tell us what single bean made you fart out of the whole can of beans you had?

If you can answer, then we can and answer your VERY subjective, variable question on what bike is the best, really come on!   :wall:

They all fall to bits just read all the forums, It's just Honda owners won't admit it!!!!!

Steve you have obviously never owned one? Here are a few facts no doubt more

No carb to clean every week looked at EFI once looked fine so put it back?

Engine runs the same every time you ride it no air screws or jets to faff with?

Quality parts Honda engineering?

Everything fits - your not ramming screwdrivers through holes to line it up for each bolt (you know you have been there)

2 stroke oil - so overrated?

Cheapest bike I have ever owned in 40 years - yes expensive to buy but you wouldn't want to run a business selling Montesa spares?

They all need looking after, they all break (or get broken) and they all wear, no matter which.

Sure some, as mentioned like Scorpa and Beta Rev3's have no shock linkage as such, so take some of the problems away.

Some come with an aura of quaility (deversed or not).

Some think EFi is more reliable, that is until it does goes wrong and you can't fix it yourself, so it's all swings and roundabouts!

What you are probably best doing, is looking at how easy it is (dealer/importer) to get hold of your spares(if I break it on Sunday, I want it fixed by the next Sunday!) and will be in future to actually find the parts it'll likely need.

Seeing though most are just a collection of parts made by other companies, there's only really plastics and the odd and sod to worry about.

Then consider if you'll do the jobs yourself or take it to a dealer for work.

(a carb'd 2 stoke might need more maintenance, but they are really simple machines to DIY)

Then go and buy the best you can.

I've found that a Rev 3 demands very little beyond the routine stuff common to all bikes eg chains, wheel bearings, pads, air filter swap etc.

However, it's very obvious at the SSDT that 4RT riders tend to be rather bored during the morning work period whereas the rest often have the thing in bits.

Thats cos you dont ride anymore.

And how I miss it, might ride Sunday at Shilton bet after a lap I wish I was somewhere else? Miss the Nationals and of course the SSDT......

My "Superior" (tongue in cheek) knowledge is based on purchasing my bike in 2006, 2 x SSDT, lots of Nationals until c2009, club trials, blasted my sorry overweight backside round the Army Championships which in reality is an Enduro on the very same bike which is stood in the garage as you have pointed out?

Not been started never mind ridden since October, but I bet tomorrow I will go in the garage and no more than 3 prods it will spring to life and run like a sewing machine, I will look in the air filter just to warrant a bit of maintainence hell it won't need cleaning, and pop the rear guard on.

Might Autosol the kick starter just so I can wash my hands when I go back inside, fill her up with 1.7 litres of the cheap unleaded fuel, hell that'll do the whole event plus 5 minutes practice before (anymore than 5 minutes after this lay off will be detrimental to my breathing?) and we are good to go?

Not too bad for a 9 year old bike which I have spent very little on?

You were a Mont rider once Andrew you know all the above rings true
