Dad has said I can give this a try if I promise to not get it dirty or crash in a big heap. That was 4 years ago and I still can't make that promise. But he's gonna let me ride it anyway.

Boxing Day trial perhaps. Just need the right venue. Midlands area

Hi,

Sorry about the location - but that would suit the Arbuthnot............

Hello there Mostin.   The BMCA have the Midlands Air Ambulance trial scheduled for this Sunday at Easthope Wood, on Wenlock Edge.  The Clubman sections will be plotted with consideration for rigids.  Please have a look at the website - www.bmca.org.uk    The machine will get pretty mucky and the going will surely be slippery... but car parking will be fine!   You'd be very welcome and perhaps an ideal opportunity to "shakedown" the bike?   And fairly local for you as well.  There is also the option of riding in the Gentlemen's class - in through the Begins, then anywhere you like and out the Ends.    Regards, Al Ussher

Can't make this weekend but it looks the place to ride. Fitted with mt43's at the minute so need to try it.

Just stripped and cleaned the mag and carb.

Any other pics of rigids?

Hi,

In the next issue of the digital magazine ORRe is a photoreport of the 1993 Talmag Trophy trial with dozens of large photographs of rigid machines - why the 1993 event - because that was 21 years after the first ever pre-65 trial, which was organised by the Rochdale club in 1972.

To see ORRe go to the home page of this website and select 'ORRe' at the top right - it is the ONLY way to see this exclusive product - and you will also find photoreports of other classic events all round the country that are going on right now - waiting for you to join in the fun..........

To whet your appetite - here is one of the action shots, showing John Biggs in Talmag action - but in ORRe there are no distracting watermarks.........

One other fact - the digital magazine is NOT a commercial venture - it is a serious attempt by a committed enthusiast to build up a RELIABLE pictorial reference library - at a maximum of £12 for immediate access to around 1700 pages, plus a further 1000 in the next year, it must be worth it.

Enjoy.

Hi Charlie,

S'right - the exhaust drive side port is blanked off, a typical mod. in the day the theory being that the full flow double exhaust was only of benefit if you were going to be using nearer to peak revs regularly.  Some of the models had twin valves feeding the twin ports, in which case we usually removed the rocker drive to the valve feeding that 'spare' port as well.

And yes, if the so-called classic professional magazines found a bike with a blanked-off port they would most likely not use that photograph thinking it wasn't 'perfect'.............

Always remember I stopped reading the professional press when one of them did a test of a Norton 500T that started, "I have never ridden a motorcycle on grass before................." at which point I didn't think the feature had anything to offer.

Trouble is, when you think about it, anybody who actually rode in a trial before 1965 has got to be an old age pensioner today - and not many of them are still seriously involved.
