I've found the Fantic to lack power, but never ridden the Beta Zero.

Fantics have never been known to be down on power plus it will have more modern suspension than the Zero! Just make sure its in good order as parts are becoming scarce!

£700 sounds about right - I'd have a ride first before parting with the money, and if you can take your dad with you, better still.

Just thought i'd add to my last comment: The brakes were excellent and i liked the slim profile of the bike... good luck

No - someone I know owns one, it’s a 97 bike in red and blue and I rode it this year. Aesthetically the bike needs some TLC, the engine sounded well and the whole bike felt stabile and solid to ride. I ride a 2005 Raga 300, so when I say the power is a little 'down' on power, view my comments on the bike I ride. A friend of mine commented to me after I rode the Fantic saying, "it couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding!". I assume your less than 12.5 stone, in which case the bike should perform quite well, go and have a look it might be a lot better than your Beta. Hope this helps

It must be knackered then, I had a new one in '97 and it certainly didn't lack any power.Bikes have moved on again since then but I don't think I've ridden better than I did on the Section. The build quality and overall quality left a little (ok a lot) :) to be desired but beyond that mine was a fantastic bike. :)

I have some experience with a '95 Section that I used to maintain.
I found it very peaky.
Revved very fast, like an MXer.
The owner presented me with a flywheel weight that he bought to make a little more torque, and when I removed the flywheel cover to install it, there was already one there.
The idea that these have a lack of power may come from the feeling of light flywheel.
I would say that the chassis is far superior to the Zero.

wouldnt buy it there build quality is not very good at all.
I had a 125 and the paint comes off all the engine the casting are rubbish.

my dad brought a montesa 315 for £700 much better bike and build quality.
or you could get an 96 97 techno for that money which is a much better machine.

if you look about you could get a much better bike for your money.

iam sorry but the reliability was excellent on fantics!u VERY rarely find a broken down fantic!if its the 97 section with the alloy frame the build quality is also Very good!they certainly didnt lack in power they had a adjustable power valve on if u think they are flat when standard!bill pye@frankfield fantic in middlesbrough has all the spares you will eva need!alough a 97 bike may not be upto the standard of a new bike they are a very very good bike!alot better&easier to ride in every way than your zero
