heffergm Posted May 23, 2016 Report Share Posted May 23, 2016 Aside from the obvious, like rust, how can you tell if the dog bone needle bearings in the recent model GG's are shot? Mine look like they might have been left too long. There were a lot of metallic fragments in the old grease. I just repacked them with as much fresh grease as I could stuff in there and reassembled, since I don't have new dog bones hanging around. I don't feel any play in the swingarm. Mine is a 2014 with recent replacement bearings and the arm still drops by at least a couple of mm so I think your very lucky, I am sure most are not that good from new. crazybond700 Posted May 24, 2016 Report Share Posted May 24, 2016 Put it on a stand and check if you can pull up the swingarm without the shock moving. Loose bolts can also cause problems. A little play is not a very big problem, and well it can only get worse, nothing will brake. But eventually they will need to be replaced. often they go wrong once the seals go bust.
