Scott Entry List?

Hi,

Remember that the motivation behind the Scott trial - unique in many respects - has always centred on raising monies for charities, a major element of which is collected from programme sales.

Programmes don't just happen overnight, particularly when revenue from supporting advertising has to be raised - and 'spilling the beans' early by publishing an entry list in the media could well result in the end of a lot of support.

Members of the press should, of course, be exceptions to the rule and ought, by now, to have been given a copy of the entry, embargoed for publication until the day of release of programmes for sale, so that they can plan their press coverage and help to build the interest up to the day of the trial.  Without that 'build-up' how is Joe Public going to know where to look for programmes?

If that has not happened yet, then lack of support from the press should not be unexpected - especially if it is found that one branch has been given advance privileged information.

When all is said and done, the entire conduct of the press releases, etc., lies in the Secretary of the Meeting's responsibility, who relies on the support from the minor officials such as the Clerk of the Course, responsible for section selection and routing, after personally requesting and double checking all the landowners consents.

This is not just my view, having organised many hundreds of events, up to and including national championships and international events, I at least understand the necessary aspects of ALL of the jobs.
