Beta Evo Running Hot

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2015 250 beta evo and I have an ongoing problem with it running really hot, so much so that it is melting the plastic cover on the exhaust. The fan seems to run constantly as soon as it warms up. I have fitted jitsie high volume water pump kit and it has not made any difference. Has anyone experienced this issue and could possibly offer any solution or advice?

thanks, Daz

  • Is it losing water, Darren?

Does not seem to be losing any fluid Peter.

if it's an accessory plastic guard on the front of the pipe (not the silencer) it's normal for them to melt. Fan running constantly once it's warmed up is not that unusual either, depending on conditions. It's possible you don't have an issue.

I've never seen or heard of anyone else having a beta ( or any other bike) run so hot that it melts the front guard in this country. My Dad has the same guard on his 2013 and it has no signs of melting. Also the silencer gets overly hot. So much so I actually burnt my arm loading it onto the trailer after an event.

Hi Daz14,  check that your carb jets are not partially blocked causing it to run really lean/hot.

My 2013 EVO 2T (had sat for a while before I bought it) and it also ran really hot when I first got it, to the point that the engine was pinging anytime I gave it power under load (imagine the sound of a handful of marbles rattling violently in a coffee tin!).

When I was diagnosing the issue: Like you I bought the larger waterpump impellor and it reduced but did not fix the issue. I also flushed and cleaned the radiator and replaced the coolant. I ensured that I was running the correct 1.5% of synthetic oil in the fuel, and I even tried running a colder sparkplug to reduce the engine temperature.

After I removed both the pilot jet and the main jet from the carburettor,  i noticed that both jets were partially blocked. After I cleaned them out and reinstalled, the bike immediately stopped pinging and overheating, is easier to start both cold and hot, and has twice the amount of 'snap' and power as it first had, completely more responsive and enjoyable to ride, with no overheating issues at all.

I hope this helps you.

Cheers

I did have a beta 4t that run hot... fan came on as normal but stayed on ... not unusual for a 4t but it spat out its water after being sat for a while on idle ... it was ok if the bike was actually moving...turned out the fan was running relatively slowly, so wasn’t giving the desired cooling...you could try comparing yours to another similar bike if possible

Yes 2 strokes can run real hot, lot's of good info above, (rectifiers not giving enough juice to run fan, blocked carb).  My 2017 250 2T was also burning my leg, burnt a hole thru my pants, i took the plastic guard off and put 2 layers of aluminum automobile stick on tape on the underneath side of the plastic guard, as well as washers underneath to push the guard out 1/16th of an inch away from the pipe. No more burnt leg.

You guys are posting to a thread 3.5 years ago. Hello!!!

Doesn't really matter, the Evo we ride today hasn't changed all that much since 2009, and is not likely to change that much in the future (other than bold new graphics, revised porting on the cylinder, and some fine tuning on that same old Saches rear shock!)

Definition of revised - reconsidered and amended ! Does that mean changed back to how it used to be before it was improved ?
