^{Betty Smith obituary. 17-10-2016.}

^{The passing of Betty Smith on Sunday at her home at Spofforth ended part of a golden era in world trials championship events staged by the Wetherby Motor Club.}

^{With her husband Ken and late son Les and his wife Maggie they took on and pioneered the staging of world championships at Marsett and Bewerley.}

^{The first was when the legendary Ken’s Canyon was centre stage and Eddy Lejuene  and Steve Saunders rode Rothman RTL Hondas.}

^{In total the Smith family played a major role in six FIM world championship plus the Superstars events.}

^{Betty is survived by her husband Ken, after whom the section "Ken's Canyon" was named, to whom we offer our deep sympathies.}

 

Sorry took so long to get back,but now have funeral arrangements for Betty Smith. It will be held at Stonefall Cemetary,Wetherby Road,Harrogate, on Thursday 27th October at 11.00am. I understand this may not get to press in time,but we had a few complications that delayed arrangements.
