As far as I can determine the earliest Bultaco models being used in trials here in the UK were converted from trail models, that work was undertaken in the workshops of Lacashire dealer Jack Anelay and one was entered in the 1962 Scottish, there is a photograph of it at the weigh-in and even at that time the modifications (tweaks) definitely show that it was a Sherpa in development.

The photograph is in the book 'Lochaber Rich Mixture' which I published and then subsequently serialised in our digital magazine, ORRe.

The Anelay connection started when they were actively involved in racing the Bultacos and were the UK distributors for those machines.
