Hi, Just giving the carb a good clean. It's an Amal L2627 410. The only info on the correct jets etc. for the 349 are for an L2627 216 and I have slightly different ones.

Info taken from this site says;

Amal carb as per MH359 manual

Make;Amal

type;L-2627/216                             Mine; L-2627/410

diffuser diameter;27                                 27

Main jet;145                                           150

Low speed jet;20                                     20

Gas valve;no.4                                        ?? what's this ??

sprayer;107                                            106

position needle; 2a (2B1)               Middle groove of 5        2B1

It looks like I can get all I may need direct from Amal uk. Should I go with what the manual says or stick with what I've got as it's a different model?

The slide looks worn so I shall replace that.

Thanks for looking.

Neil

The gas valve is the slide.  You have a small difference in needle jet (sprayer) and main jet.

I was typing this as suzuki's reply came in and was about to say see how it runs before changing anything. But I am not familiar with the difference in carb types though the numbers might indicate that yours is intended for a four stroke, but as it has a pilot jet then perhaps not.

Hi Neil, I think that example you posted is actually a 416 not 216. Regardless, here is a couple of exploded view diagrams I have found for 349 carb's. The 1st one is for a 406 carb with a part number of '5162.00101' possibly one of the 1st 349 versions, the 2nd pic is for a 416 carb with a part number of '5162.00104' definitely intended for models 51M24424 and upwards and more likely suited to the last of the 349's, such as 349/4, MH 349 and 350. Hope this info helps.

PS: Can only upload the 406 in this post, the 416 will be in next post.

Thanks, Those are great !

I have priced up replacing all the jets, gaskets etc. and it comes to 46 GBP (76 Austalian dollars). I recentley re-built a Bultaco which had the wrong carb on and replaced it with a new Mikuni from the same company, which works great. A new and ready jetted to suit the Montesa Mikuni would be £157 (259 Australian Dollars).

Seeing as the one I have is getting on a bit I'm thinking of doing the same. Any thoughts?

Neil

The 26mm OKO I bought for my 348 works a treat, came with a new rubber connector, fitted without modification and cost $200 australian dollars including freight

Where from !!!!!
