squeak rear brake and rear suspension.

 Share

Recommended Posts

rear brakes make an intermittent squeak noise every revolution! rear suspension makes a squeak noise every time it compresses.

someone told me to ride with brakes on until they get hot and poor water on it..   sounds right??

what is proper rear brake and rear suspension maintenance?   Thanks

What bike?

Rear suspension linkages and swingarm bearings need to be cleaned and greased as part of routine maintenance, frequency depends on usage, washing and choice of grease. If you pressure wash and ride in water you'll need to do them more frequently than someone that doesn't.

Brake noise isn't always a fault/maintenance issue, but I'd check it's all as it should be, pistons not seized, disk not warped etc.

Check your rear disc's runout... it is not a 'Floater rotor' It may be bent......if it is not,but squeaks[ including the rear suspension] and it bothers you; then take the parts that are squeaking to bits and clean and lube what needs cleaning and lubing........ it really is that simple....forget what it says in the owners manual about servicing things ....[ which you did not get for some bizzare reason with your new contact].

Depending on the type of use..frequency of use....conditions of use etc etc means that following the servicing in the manual is just a very rough guide.

The brake pads can squeak when the braking surface of the pad has dirt on it or when the brakes have been cleaned using brake cleaner they start squeaking.....too help them not to squeak apply a thin smear of copper grease to the rear of the pads[the bit that touches the brake piston]

As stated  before; your bike is the same bike as a 2017 racing pro except that your bike has been made cheaper by fitting it with cheap suspension front and rear ...other differences being the larger fuel tank and you get a trail riding seat thrown in  to make it a randonne model if you like, and of course your Pirelli hard compound cheaper tyres and old rim tape sealed morad rear wheel in place of the newer airtight version rim.

Gas Gas pro models are basically the same as your contact from 2013 onwards so if you require information about it then go to www.gasgasmotos.es and go to manuals and look at a manual[It has all the service intervals listed] for a pro racing 250  2017 and follow everything  except obviously in regard to your suspension that has its own requirements that are in the Jim Snell video you have already used. Also use as reference for maintenance Jim Snells GasGas pro video's that you will find on You tube that are in his trialspartsusa  Youtube account. All of them from 2003 will be of use to you.And the suspension linkage maintenance videos as far back as 1994 on the original contact models that your bikes model name has been lifted from.

Almost everything that you need to know about your bike is on the you tube  tutorials by Jim Snell giving detailed information and video footage.

It worked well! cleaned the brakes and applied "quiet brake" to the rear surface!  squeaky noise is gone.   thanks for all the other tips
