Don't seem to hear much about the Montesa or the Sherco these days, what are the owners views on the bikes now they have had chance to give them a good testing?

Would love to own a montesa in 12 months if the funds will allow, my local dealer was telling me alot of folks who bought them don't seem to be getting on with the fourstroke.

Any thoughts from the horses mouth so to speak

Hi marky, i bought one approximately three months ago, and if truth be told, at first i did think that i had made a huge (and expensive) mistake!
First impressions.
The clutch was mega grabby and either on or off, no in between, which, allied with the higher than normal gearing, made low speed manouvering "interesting" to say the least. This meant that when the clutch disengaged.. it was off up the sections!! Not so handy in slippery, rocky streams or tight turns, where the bike would invent it's own lines.
Impressions Now (three months later)
. I will be lowering the gearing, but only 2 teeth more at the rear sprocket. A lot of people have gone up 4 at the rear, but as my previous bike was a 315,which is slightly higher geared than the competition, it should be similar. I would say that it doesnt seem to spin at the rear wheel so readily as the two strokes, and you will never find yourself short of "ooomph". It does take a bit of getting used to, and with practice you will find yourself using the clutch less. (there is a clutch mod, but i havn't bothered with it, as i have become used to it now). It is heavier than the gassers etc. but i find that this makes it solid in streams and less likely to wander/ lose grip etc.

However, with practice i have become more accustomed to it and would say that it is an awesome peice of kit, even in my less than capable hands (i ride the novice class). If you try it and like it, you will love it after 6 months, and if people don't give it a chance to get accustomed to it flog it, well there's a cheap deal for you.
