  1. Not Trials or even bike related but FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily FIAT = Fix It Again Tony (Italian accent for best effect) LOTUS = Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious
  2. As the title says, fan kicks in and then spins faster or slower with engine revs?

    maintenance

Pledge furniture polish! Nice and cheap (just rob it off the missus, just make sure you return it before she notices) Works a treat!
  4. Agreed any chain lube will stay put if applied properly. Shake can well, ideally apply to a dry chain, and leave for at least 12 hours before use, to allow the propellant (which keeps the lube loose enough to spray) to evaporate.
  5. How about the stuff designed for the job Renthal Grip glue!
  6. After 10 years of fighting with leaking Carbs, blown Stators, Italian electrics & rear shocks, My loyalty has finally been killed off, and the ol' Wife Beta has left my garage for the last time. Replaced with a bright red GasGas 250Pro. 3 events later and a good amount of practice sessions, Nothing to report, As in no problems, nothing, nowt, just a very good bike. Of course time will tell but here & now GasGas all the way. A big thank you to John Lampkin for always having the part required on my doorstep the next day & all his spot on advise, I'm going to miss our monthly phone call!

    Clutch Fluid?

I'm going over a season old 2010 250pro I have picked up, need to top up the clutch fluid is it dot4 or mineral
  8. Where are you getting this info from, or is this all just wishful hoping as I understand the rear shock was only a problem on a small number of bikes, Trials clutches have always been a sticking point (no pun intended) and everyone wants a DID rim but the price doesn't equate on a production bike
  9. Good point, no we probably don't have to worry about the rubber rotting. But the salt in soap or fairy liquid attacks the aluminium, it will eat through the hard anodizing and then rot the aluminium, aluminium does corrode the white fluff on old aluminum parts is 'Rust' this however once formed protects the aluminium from further corrosion, salt prevents this from forming and accelerates the process added with the fact that the inside of a rim is the perfect atmosphere to cause corrosion (rich oxygen source, damp and sealed) I only use a proper tire soap its not expensive and works a hell of a lot better than anything else you could always take a jam jar down to you local tire shop and sweet talk them in to a jar full if your tight
  10. Bolt croppers through chains, grinder through bollard, lock punched through on garage door all done sat afternoon by "Locksmith" (who's going to question?) Police reckon it was an organized gang I don't just compete in trials, I race supermoto, modern and classic hillclimbs, Trackdays on anything from a rs250 though to a gsxr1000 so plenty of people must recognise me and see me on different machinery and maybe put 2&2 together. I would hate to think it was someone I know I would obviously like to keep my identity intact by not giving out to much detail but three bikes I would love to see again are 2007 Husqvarna SM450RR for the money i've plowed into it 2010 Beta Evo 290 simply because I hadn't ridden it and a 1936 Douglas 500 s.v.deluxe It was my grandfathers from new the rest were mostly track weapons all a bit tatty and to be honest pretty worthless
  11. I have a garage full of bikes which are all anchored down, garage is alarmed, drop down bollard in front of the up an over door, I park my alarmed van tight to the door and also because my garage faces onto a busy main road I put a curtain track up 6-7' inside the door Simply pull a bike to the front shut the curtain and open the door usually load the bike straight into the van as not to advertise what I have in there Still 2 weeks ago went to a wedding on Saturday stayed over, came home Sunday afternoon, No van and no bikes the *******s must have made three trips at least!!! The neighbours told me they had seen a locksmiths van outside my house for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon and didn't think anything of it (why would you?) Police don't seem interested saying the bikes are in bits and sold by now, And yes I'm having to fight the insurance company for a realistic payout
  12. Christ you could buy a 2010 evo for that and still have change for plenty of bling

    Flywheel Play...

yep mains have had it 50 odd notes (+seals) from lampkins , sort it sooner rather than later, tired main bearings will quickly destroy the bigend, you will need a gasket kit as well
  14. i have just read through the online manual and realised i should have put superunleaded in which i will do next time. Why ? Super has a higher octane which resists ignition, a lower octane fuel is simply igniting on compression before tdc (pre ignition) Piston slap is caused by general wear causing a slight movement in the piston this could be worn rings , or at the other end of the scale could be a tired big end, or indeed anything in between from main bearings through to small end bearing. first step would be, whip the barrel and piston off carefully remove the top ring and taking care not to score the barrel slip it inside the barrel to just above the ports and measure the gap with a feeler gauge (I forget the tolerence but lampkins should be able to help) if the gap is only just out of tolerence new rings should sort it, inspect the gudgin pin if there is any wear on the pin replace both the pin and bearing now take hold of the conrod and shake it around you should expect a small amount of side to side movement but NO up or down play if there is any play to determine whether its big end or mains take hold of the flywheel and try to move that if that moves in anyway your mains have had it
