  1. Tone, to advance the timing remove the flywheel and you'll see the stator plate. Loosen the three screws and rotate the plate counter clockwise to advance the timing. Here's a pic: As for how far to advace it I'll let those that know for sure advise on that. My bike is an 02 270 and found this picture. When I pulled my flywheel the stator was rotate CCW so the screw head was about 1/4 of the distance into the area between the red lines. Bike runs great. Greg
  2. I have the most fun during "Play Days". The trials are ok and I enjoy them but I most enjoy getting with the guys, praticing sections and then some follow the leader trail riding.
  3. MIne cracked on the silencer side. Took it off and had it welded. Worked out great. Was told it was probably caused by lifting the rear by grabbing the silencer. In fact the end that plugs into the mid-pipe was also broken out. Had that welded up and it's worked out great. Took it to a guy that makes custom Choppa's for a living. An artist with metal and welding... I always lift the rear now by grabbing the swing arm.
  4. I was told to keep junk from falling into the pad and piston area. Keeps the junk out.....sorta
  5. Page 43 of the 06 manual says: Right leg 370cc Left leg 350cc

    Sparks Plugs

That might be why they don't show a platinum plug on the site and the parts store guy couldn't find it either.

    Sparks Plugs

I went to the NGK USA site and looked up the plugs and for a Beta 270 it only lists the standard plug BP7ES and the Iridium plug BPR7EIX but there is no listing for the platinum. Can anyone give me a number for the platinum plug being used? Thanks
  8. Here's a little hour meter if you really want to know how many hours are on the oil. Enduro friends of mine use them. http://www.magicracing.com/DRD-Hour-Meter_p_72-1886.html
  9. I just did both the front and rear on my Beta. Over here we have spray cans of paint made for plastic by Krylon and Rustoleum. Did a wet sand on them, wipe down with laquer thinner to make sure all the oil was off and sprayed. Works great and looks good. Did it in black and now I'm know as "Darth Beta"......
  10. Just went to the TwinAir sight and bought a couple. There priced about 1/2 that of the OEM. Hey, 2 for the price of one.....what a deal.....
  11. Here's a pic of the carb that I found a while back. Sorry I can't give credit to who's pic it is. This helped me understand the words on Billy's set up.
  12. I too have to take the brake pedal off and have read all the advise. I bent mine (don't know which rock I hooked it on). My question is: Do I straighten it with a BFH (see I learned some new terms) or should I heat it up a bit to get it straight? Trying to remember if you heat metal up and let it cool slowly it will be softer andn if you heat and quench it is stronger....or is it the other way around? Thanks,
  13. Had the same thing happen on my 02 270. I had to get a right angle drill and short bit to drill it out and then tap it and put the heli coil in. This was the first time I had ever put in a heli coil and the whole job was quite easy once I had the right tool to drill it out.
  14. IF you go into the the www.beta-uk.com site and then to the link for the bikes you will see a list of bike years. When I click on the 2002 (which my bike is) it has a FAQ's link. I clicked on that link it it as a link for ignition timing. That's where I got the pic that I posted that was different than what Barry posted. Yesteday I pulled the flywheel and when Ron put the new stator in at the nationls (thanks Ron!) the timing is set like the pic Berry posted. I'd didn't notice much differance in the bike but than again I'm a nube...

    De - Coke

I'll let you all know how it goes when I fire it up. I looked inside and it looked like the stuff was still in there. I couldn't find a caustic soda so a guy at the local shop said that's the way he does the MX bikes.
