  1. Hi there Mark, still very confused to what the manufacturing year of the bike...the VIN ID's it as a 2014 Model with the Letter E in 10th digit, and it looks like it be one of the first 200 bikes made under the 2014 model ID, but considering it doesn't have the 2014 easy start...not sure if OSSA had a mid Model year revision for the 2014? Could you by any chance check your VIN to see what yours is, I believe I saw your post that you had one of the first 2014's in North America
  2. Hmm, was all set to go buy the bike but then realized that something is a bit fishy. The bike is advertised as a 2014, and has 2014 black plastics - but for the starter it has the battery behind the headlamp not under the seat as it should be for the 2014 and it also still has the red stop button on the throttle side that was used on the 2013 . It is my understanding that the start assist was revamped for 2014 so I now have my doubts that this is indeed a 2014...Grrr...asked the dealer to send me a VIn number and a picture of the battery set up under the seat since I live 2.5 hours away...
  3. That's a nice set up Mark - are those ROX risers? I was considering getting the antivib ROX and keep with the stock bar..usually don't have too much of an issue with that... Since yours looks more like a trail riding set up, which is what I'm after as well (those awesome high alpine rides around Winthrop and Leavenworth are calling me...)....did you do anything to stiffen up suspension? And finally what gearbox oil do you run? and what pre mix oil do you use? I will likely give Adrian at Lewissport a call to see what they recommend as well? on the beta we run Opti 4 5w30 for the gearbox and opti 2 pacakges for the premix
  4. PS...I'm 5.11 so I plan to add risers ..anybody else put a pair of risers on their Ossa Explorer? did it affect the handling much..I did really like the handlebar sway , just want a bit more height for comfort.. If I do actual trials riding I'd take them off.... Also the conversion to a trials bike - does it require a different set of plastics ? I guess it would....since the ones one don't seem to work with the trial low seat base....I doubt I would do it often, but we do have a few places that only allow trials moto's and I wouldn't want to create trouble for thee local organization to ride there with something that looks closer to a mini dirtbike then a trials bike
  5. Spoke again to a very trusted friend in the trials community who also happens to always fix my bike and although he had originally advised me against, when he saw how much I liked it - he basically also said...if the price is right just get it, he is sure he can fix it if it breaks, and there is a dealer in Mission (about 1.5 hours) , as well as Vancouver island who has all the cables and stuff to do the diagnostics... so price wise...its advertised at 6400CAD, which I guess would be around 5100-5200US....its at most has 20 hours of riding, its pretty much brand new, not even a scratch in the plastic....thoughts on counter offers are appreciated ....I doubt he will move it easily..its definitely a specialty item
  6. I'm In BC, Canada but assume as available could get parts in the US....indeed I did very much like the bike and am looking towards those that have some for feedback on issues they may have had... My biggest concern is have a dramatic failure where I will be 20 miles out in the bush with a broken down bike..I know there is always a risk of that, even with a Honda...
  7. And indeed I am looking at a 2014
  8. Yes indeed I know they are done - talking to the dealer it appears that besides the whole cassette gearing they expect to find pretty much all aftermarket .. And I guess the actual frame of it broke .. Which I read some stuff about swing arm failure but I assume that's pretty random Just trying to figure out what my risk for transmission failure is and more importantly what exactly that means - I.e stranded on the side of the trail or limp out on a single gear
  9. Hi there current OSSA Owners. I'm struggling with the decision to buy a little OSSA explorer...I test drove it, loved it, but have been advised by many against buying an OSSA. I'm trying to figure out how much of the negativity (i.e chews through gear box) is still lagging from the 2011/2012 issues and if folks that own newer (2013/2014) bikes still have problems. Truth is, if OSSA was still in business, I would possible even buy it with the transmission issue, I though it was one of the smoothest powered trials moto's I have been on (owned a Gas Gas 300, named the devil, a beta Rev 3 2003 and we also have a 2015 beta evo 200)....a bit difficult to start when cold, but once its warmed up it purred just fine and kicked over with one whimpy kick... If you have had a transmission failure, what actually happens...does the engine seize up ? or do you simply use the upper gears? is it something you feel happening over a few rides or is at instantaneous ??? I guess the last thing I'd want is be 20 miles out on a trail ride and have a seized engine Thanks for all the input in advance....sure is a beauty of a bike
  10. Hi there, in preparation for the spring, I want to clean and repack the exhausts on our heavily used Beta Rev's..one is a 2005 the other a 2007 and well as they were both bought used about a year ago, I dont know if they have ever been cleaned? I have never packed a muffler and was wondering if there is anything in aprticular I should watch out for? I assume cleaning te parts is best done by soaking in Gasoline or some heavy duty degreaser? Any suggested packing material? well pretty much any advice will help Thanks... And ...shout out to Dan Williams for posting the detailed info on Carb cleaning...its printed out in the shop next to the bikes!!!...Saved me and my carb!!!
  11. Hi I need some help with my Beta Rev 2007. The bike was running fantastic but I blew out the fork and it took a while to get fixed. The bike sat for a little under a month and I just noticed that the fuel was left on... It started on the 5 kick with the choke on...with the trottle revin it feels good....but when I slow down and put around 2nd or 3rd gear in idle mode..aka low to no trottle the bike lurches quite a bit...worries me if it will do this when I am descending steep stuff... What causes the lurching at low to no trottle and how do I fix it THANKS PS...the clutch is working fine and but same thing with the clutch oulled the engine revs high low high low ...strange
