  1. The Gaerne boots are amazing comfortable and 6 months later and still 100% waterproof after many days in full muddy , boggy wet rising conditions... However i broke my pinky toe and severely bruised the next couple two weeks ago by folding my foot over after a minor spill.... My fault but they do offer very little toe protection.... My other gripe is a piece of scrap barbed wire has torn through the leather surface on the toe upper which was lying on ground somewhere. The same thing happened with some other sharp edge on the other boot... Its not through the leather but annoying. As another comment states they do get very soft when wet. I tried the black Hebo boots before and they were completely crap. Totally un-waterproof, cheap plastic straps and terrible quality synthetic uppers.
  2. Amazing piece of trials history that...loved seeing what those riders and bikes could do back then on some equally tough sections of today ............the proper waxed trials suits, scant headwear and heavy boots just look much better than the flouro-skin suits nowadays.
  3. Aye test the spark plug again as it may just be user error as i dont see why it wouldn't spark from what you described. If you want the easy / cheap option just get another Dellorto carb 2nd hand of which there are plenty and cheap to save trying to sort out what you have done to your original carb. Im sure Richard would make sure the screws / float are all set right just to fit straight back on the bike. Fitting a Keihn PWK is an amazing upgrade to the bike though but the PWK 28 does require more knowledge and so on to get running to best performance. Plus you have to sleeve the airbox rubber to fit it although you can try and get the original to fit by warming it in hotwater and fighting with it for a while. You may need a different throttle cable also. If it was me I'd stick to a Dellorto for now as they are pretty forgiving. Also playing around with the carb etc is just part of the learning curve of having a trials bike. You learn by your mistakes... good luck neil
  4. yep also did the 600 miles M6 from Edinburgh.....
  5. I went for the first time and really enjoyed it. Plenty of nice old trials bikes to look over and size upplus plenty of stalls to look around. I didn't see many 'bargains' but got a pair of new Gaerne trials boots and loads of workshop bits and bobs. Being able to see a wide selection of the trials shops, products and new /old bikes is invaluable to an enthusiast i think and was an enjoyable few hours spent there. Recommended.
  6. what a great video link.

    Hebo Boots

I second the opinion of the Hebo Eco trials boots being very poor quality. Likewise i have owned them barely 6 months and am considering replacing them already. The outer skin has fallen apart in many places where they rub on the gear lever for instance and they let the water in even in damp grass. Truly crap. The best improvement i made was buying a pair of seal skinz long socks which will extended their useful life through all the snow this winter ..... AVOID.
  8. Hi there Im a new TYZ250 owner... a 1994 model Just wondering what other owners recommend for the spark plug ? The bike came with a NGK BPR5ES and ran fine I changed this to the NGK plus recommended in the manual BP6EV , except i used the X platinum tip version which was hard to find After running the bike today i could have sworn it didn't run quite as well with the new plug, not quite the same power it seemed. Nothing else has been changed or altered on the bike since the new plug. I just wondered what plug everyone else used in theirs ? I know the the R NGK plugs have resistance in them and i wondered if this made any difference to the running. I have a Montesa 315 and it needs the R plug for example thanks neil
  9. Hello My hydraulics on my 1997 model 315 need attention and i was wondering what the best options were for parts. The fluid has leaked from the system. I saw no sign of wetness at the back of the master cylinder so i think it must be from the seals in the slave as i did see fluid inside there on removal....or was that gearbox oil ? Looking at the Montesa 315 parts list it lists 3 types of master cylinder for the bike ...97 year. 98-2000 and 2001-2004 Only the late model cylinder is still available new. Doesn't look like a piston kit is available for the 97 year either. Are the later model clutch masters interchangeable with the system or are they different for some reason ? Is the 97 type available from other bike manufactures as a spare I have noticed that the 97 models seem to differ in other areas albeit in minor details You can still get the seals for the clutch slave new so is that the best option for the slave ? From previous experience with cars re-placing pistons and seals only seems to last a while as the bore may be scored. Should I replace the hose as well ? thanks for any advice neil
  10. Thanks for the replies. Yes it would seem the 6" renthals are my best bet and go from there. I'll see how much rise i get out of that. It should be at least 1.5-2" as the standard bars i think are 4" or a little bit more. I found some picture online of bars + risers and yes it does look a little strange I'll try your advice of bending the knees more. I have a really long upperbody , rather than long legs so it makes me tower or 'moster' over the bike i think applying more leverage to my wrists. I had the same issue with the straight mountain bike bars and had to change them for comfort on my bike thanks
  11. Hi there I am 6ft 3" and love riding my Montesa 315 but i just feel the original handlebars are too low for me. If they were raised up a bit it would just make the position far better for me . Can anyone suggest the best value and most practical long-term solution for this ? I did a bit of research and i found Renthals do a 6" raised Trials 7/8" handlebar. How much higher than the original Renthals bar is this and will this fit my original clamps and cables...? Im just worried that going for raised bars means having to buy new longer brake / clutch / throttle cables etc.. Is the other option using raiser blocks or clamps on the original bars ? Whats the verdict on doing the raise with blocks ? Any suggestions or advice on this problem gratefully received regards Neil - Edinburgh
  12. Hi there I have a 1997 315R with the Paoili Forks .. the manual says Paoli but i presume its the same Italian company... The previous owner has been a bit sloppy with his work and rounded off the RHS fork cap nut to the point where i know its only going to come off with visegrips.... and then be rendered unusable. Its the side with the purple clicker sticking out proud from the cap Does anyone know where i can source a suitable replacement fork cap nut so as i can change my oil...? 51450-NN3-000 is the Honda / Montesa part number I've had a look online in the usual places but its listed as £60 and now deleted / unavailable.... £60 seems pretty steep though even if i could fine one... I know these forks were also fitted to Beta,s Sherco and Scorpa of the same period and beyond into the 0000's but cant locate the part for them either... The fork tube in 38mm... Anyone got any suggestions or other solution to the problem >? ... As long as my forks work im not a huge fiddler in suspension settings but want to be able to change my oil. thanks neil sutherland
