  1. Thanks for those replies. I scraped some of the horrid blue paint of and there is certainly silver underneath. That's one question answered. I'm sure there will be many more to come.
  2. So assuming I have a 71 model any idea of frame colour please? black, silver, white, red ?????
  3. I used that site and it looked like a 71 to me. Maybe I looked at it wrong but I though July-Sept 71. No indication of frame colour on that site either. Scrapes some blue off and it looks like there may have been silver under it.
  4. Just bought a Cota 247. Frame number 21M42** Engine is a right hand gear change. Frame looks to have been painted a weird pale blue years ago (looks hideous). I need to know what year it is please. I suspect 1971. Gonna teach my daughter to ride it then give it a proper restoration. Thanks in advance.
  5. I've just watched a copy of this 1950's/60's DVD from Duke Video and it's fantastic. The commentary is by Alan Jeffries and there are many famous faces passing through the sections. It would appear that feet up didn't used to be the idea though as getting through to the end seems more the aim. There is little finess on show and they must have been either boiling or freezing in their WW2 great coats and tweeds. Especially interesting if you live in the area. Worth every penny and still available at http://www.dukevideo.com/prd2124/So-This-is-Yorkshire-Trials-History-DVD
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. 1st reply back from frank on eBay £250 please. I'll see what happens with the other traders next week.
  7. I've spoken to Granby Motors and nothing comes close to the bore size of the 348. I've asked a Two Stroke Forum member in Spain to keep an eye out but I bet I'll end up getting a batch made by Wiseco.
  8. After hours spent looking in diferent countrys ebay and google searched the only place I can find 1st oversize 348 pstons is classic trials france at an eye watering £250+. Is there a more reasonably priced alternative or does the price reflect the fact that that is the only source?
  9. Can anyone tell me the correct rear shock length for the 348 please? Halfway through a restoration and the lack of available info is frustrating but it'll be worth it. Thanks
  10. Hi I'm Parky. I learned to ride on a Cota 247 when I was 11 and have had trials bikes on and off since then. 36 years later and I've bought a Cota 348 which I'm restoring. I used to ride with west Leeds and Horsforth but will be looking for the easy twinshock trials in the new year.
  11. Well it looks like I have some toolmaking to do to strip the Cota and replace the crank seals. I'm on with making a puller for the drive gear and have just fouind that my "universal" puller doesn;t fit the stator.. I'll have to ask a mate to turn one for me on his lathe. Can anyone tell me the thread size and pitch or let me know where I can buy a puller from. Thanks
  12. A supplimentary question to the gear removal thread. Do I have to split the cases to change the crank seals or any of the other seals for that matter? If not then I'll be a happy man.
  13. Thanks for the info. I have been searching the web for a couple of days for info on this but can't find any (hence this post). Which forums do you mean specifically as there are so many to chose from. Thanks again
  14. I've just bought a Cota 348 which is in need of some love and tenderness. Most of it has come apart easily as it hadn't been too badly abused in the past. However the drive gear on the left hand side which engages with the clutch outer basket isn't budging. I have ground the arms of a 3 leg puller to fit and heated it until the metal has started to blue but it hasn't budged even a little bit. Now I'm begining to think that it isn't on a spline or woodruff key and it may be on a thread (well you never know). Any help or tips will be much appreciated. In addition is there anything to watch for when I split the cases?
