  1. Hi Chappo, before you start pulling it apart to do the seals, are you absolutely sure that the jets are clear? Sometimes they need a careful poke with thin wire to clear an obstruction.
  2. That looks like the sort of bodge I used to do when my brake shoes/hubs were worn...... Definitely remove the bent metal and hopefully they'll fit in the hubs nicely. As regards the cam bushing, if it's not too sloppy it will probably function ok. Otherwise, an decent engineering shop should be able to bore it out and make up a bronze or nylon bush. Cheers, Matt.
  3. I don't think you need to worry about it. I finally got around to having a proper ride on my 198b at a Sidcup practice trial last week. I recently finished a mostly cosmetic rebuild my brother started many years ago (prompted by me bending the gear shaft in a trial about 20 years ago) and the bike is bog stock and low mileage. I was even considering selling it but, having ridden it, changed my mind. I've not ridden a 350 so can only say that the 250 'plonks' along well, has good pick up, grips really well and revs out well - everything you want from a trials engine infact. I reckon you're going to love it!
  4. I would check the operating lever/push rod mechanism - if I remember rightly there's a ball bearing at the end of the push rod. It could be that something's not right and you aren't getting enough movement to separate the plates?

    199B Swing Arm

By the way Bondy, slightly off topic but you know I said I couldn't get mine to run right? Turns out the new condensor I fitted (along with points, LT coil, HT coil..) was a duff one - fitted another one and she's running perfect! Just goes to show that because something's new doesn't mean that it actually works........

    199B Swing Arm

On my 198b the bracket for the chain slipper also holds the back brake cable - is the 199b different, or has yours been modified?
  7. My 198b still has it's original black bars. It's a satin black finish and looks to me like a powder coat which is quite durable.

    199A Numbers

My 198b also has matching numbers. Next to the gearbox filler is stamped "60 MM" - presumably the stroke?

    198B Air Box

Hi Bondy, do you mean where it bolts to the frame at the top of the airbox? My 198b has a replacement air box fitted, I think from Bultaco UK.
