  1. Ok so i checked the vent tube and it had a bit of dirt in there but didn't seem enough to block it, stuck my tongue on the end and couldn't feel any sucking. I loosened the mag cover and warmed the bike up, left it to idle for a min and it stayed pretty constant. As soon as i gave a small spray of carb cleaner inside the cover the revs dropped and bike cut out. I tried this a couple of times and happened everytime. Does this mean 100% the seal is leaking? If so i'll get them both changed at splat shop hopefully next week and see where we go from there. Thanks for your help guys!
  2. Ok thanks for the replies guys. I'll do the basic checks on the cranks seals. If I have no joy there I think I'll jut get it down to splat shop, hopefully they'll be able to get it sorted!!
  3. Could anyone offer any advice on this? 2007 250 has a wandering idle and sometimes bogging and cutting out. I've been trying to get to the bottom of this problem and have done the following. Removed and fully cleaned the carb / jets, Checked the float height (it is parralel with the carb housing itself if that is correct) Changed the filter in the carb. Chnged the air filter with new oiled Jitsie checked plug and is fine, running a little lean if anything and was a new plug 3 hours ago. Changed fuel hose and in-line filter to carb. Checked mixture adjustment to how i know it runs well (3 turns out) to give and adjusted slightly either way with no improvement. sprayed carb cleaner on intake manifolds, spraying on manifold from engine to carb is fine, but when spraying on manifold between carb and air filter the engine rpm drops to the point of almost cutting out and once did cut out. Normally i would say that indicates an air leak but it is so close to the air intake/filter im not sure if its just being sucked in though the filter... I have ordered a new manifold anyway just to be on the safe side... Also when bike is running at an acceptable idle speed when outside the garage as soon as i wheel i inside, still with the engine running, the revs drop so low it cuts out. It was slightly windy outside but temperature difference was minimal. Is this normal??? So there you have it, any one have any clues? Thanks a lot!! Stu
  4. Well I've got to say thanks for the advise guys. I pulled off the carb and stripped it down, properly this time. Now i don't know how the hell it got in there but i found a piece of fluff stuck in the pilot jet itself... This is one of the parts i did clean out originally with carb cleaner and compressed air!! Anyway I cleaned it out again and the rest of the carb fully and refitted. Hey-presto! Its running spot on! Thanks again for the help.
  5. Thanks a lot that's great info! Will do that tomorrow, I have compressed air and carb cleaner at work so hope that's all it is. Thanks again for the replies
  6. Ahh, I cleaned the carb and took all jets out but did not touch the screws... The mixture screw is set to stock (3 turns out) this is how it was running previously, adjusting the idle doesn't seem to help unless its turned right up and then idles at about 4k!! turn it down any lower and just seems to die. The filter was a jitsie pre-oiled one which to be honest i haven't used before. thanks for the reply
  7. Hi all after same routine maintenance work on the bike it will now not idle although rides ok otherwise, so you should know all the details so please bear with me. Well, the story goes like this. Whilst the weathers been crap I thought id do all the routine maintenance on the bike all at once. So i drained the oil, coolant and fuel, the bike stood with no fluids in it for about a week. I cleaned the carb quite thoroughly and cleaned out the air box. Removed the stator cover and give a wipe out (i heard they can get some condensation inside there) and was also not refitted for about a week. Did all the other bits such as grease bearings/ throttle tube, cleaned apds etc. Anyway, put it all back together, fresh coolant, fresh oil, new air filter, new plug (BP5ES although my old one was a BPR5ES) gapped to 0.5. The airbox was a pain to get back on, had to lever it forward a bit to get the screws in which has squished up the inlet manifold between and airbox and carb a bit, carb is sat correctly and all the way on the manifolds. Cleaned the fuel tank and added fresh fuel (68ml to 5L). The bike started fine on choke and seemed ok for a few minutes then idle began to drop, kept it running by gently revving and took it for a tootle round the yard. Rides fine but wanting to die when dropping to idle. when it had warmed up gave it a couple of high revs to try clear it out but still the same. So... Any ideas? Sorry for war and peace!! Thanks

    New Helmet

Has anyone had a experience using NZI helmets? Been looking for a new one myself and have come across trials uk selling a NZI carbon fibre one for £85. They only have xs left but that should fit I think, I'm currently wearing a small wulfsport but isn't a great fit.
  9. Thanks for the advise guys. So I checked everything and all looked good. We went out today and to begin with it was great, but after about half hour of riding the engine bogged down and died. It wouldn't restart so I change the plug and it fired first kick. Thinking it was sorted we went off again but 30 mins later same thing, it starts sounding slightly different, like it is poss misfiring and a slight knock when letting off the power then it bogs and dies. If left for 10 mins or so it will restart with choke and be ok for another 30 mins and do it again. I'm baffled. It runs absolutely spot on until it decides it wants to die. Just wondered if this sounded familiar to anyone? Thanks
  10. why not wash with pressure washer? i trust you on the sunscsreen!
  11. Hi there. Im new to the forum, the bike and trials in general so just looking for some advise. Iv just bought myself a 2008 Sherco 250, it looks immaculate and seems to have been looked after very well, there's hardly a mark on it! But obviously as with all off road bikes things will always go wrong so what common things should i be checking for and looking out for in the future? Thanks a lot
  12. Thanks a lot for the replies. Il have a look round and see what there is about. The main thing putting me off betas is the left hand kick start.... Just seems weird to me!! It's hard enough kicking up a trials bike with my right leg lol.
  13. Hi all. As the title i am new to trials and looking to buy my first bike. Up until now iv only ever had 125 road & mx bikes. I had a play on a friends montesa 315 last weekend and loved it! I've always been interested in trials but never give it a go but now the KTM is up fo sale So what bike??? i only have a budget of about £1800 so looking for something reasonably cheap. I love the look of the shercos and can pick up 250's for good money and also there are 1 or 2 decent looking 250 gassers about around 2006 in budget. Any info would be good. I have been told though because im only 5ft4 and 8 1/2 stone a 250 would be too powerful for me and to get a 125... Personally i think id get used to and bored of a 125 pretty quickly. Thanks for your help guys!
