  1. Please please please go to a competition and just talk to the riders. Most of these mutts are real good people, and there families are even better. Go to a competition and ask around. Ask about the bikes, ask about the WHY of this bike or that bike, and truly SEE what these riders are capable of. Then, ask questions about the how much. Trials bikes hold thier value quite a bit better than the usual, so 3800 for the TXT is not to bad sounding. I will also say, that the 250 might be a LOT to much bike for the beginner. If you are a lightweight, say under 150 LB, or a beginner up to 175 or so, a 125-200 would probably be a much better choice. There is a lot of go in these bikes, while not that fast, they are explosive if you get it wrong. There are plenty of men and women competing on 200cc bikes and they are having to tune them to slow them down a bit. Look into a comp that is coming up in a place called Tishamingo. I think that is how it is spelled. It is a town in southern Oklahoma and might give you a good look at the riders and the kind of riding you are looking into. Good luck, enjoy, and above all else, Enjoy the ride Amigo.
  2. And cooler heads prevail yet again.. screw new diesel... every thing I see is 50 grand. If I am going to go across the country, (Texas is a freekin' country of it's own folks. Anything that takes you 14 hours to drive one way across at speed limits is a freekin' country. It is big!) I want a larger vehicle. I want something so my gear is out of sight, and out of mind. I want something that will take a hit, go through more than a few inches of mud, snow, or dirty clothing. Minny vans don't fly off road. I do NOT want to pedal a 4 cylinder or for that matter V6 up hill carrying a load of give or take a half ton and have to mat the gas pedal to maintain 55 and not get run over. To do this i have to run a slightly bigger motor, i need about 4.5-6L and hope i have an automatic trans. Hey, the automatic is a luxury item for me, for years i have driven a 5 speed. To get the bikes I ride in and out, (trials, MX, Supermoto, Duel Sport, and Sport bike, so far...) I need a taller hatch. I would like to include a buddy or two in my shenanigans, so I need a bit of space. Give me a full size van for this and I will be a happy man. The Nissan, even used is still 15k, but I can get used E-250 EXT pas anger vans for 7K and it be a VERRY good example of its breed. Sorry, E-vans for me. And I hate ford! Oh ! Then I can hitch my friends camp trailer to it and STILL get 15 MPG running uphill into Colorado. P.S. My two pennies... Blip, Enjoy the ride Amigo...
  3. I am in the same market, or a bout this and here is my thinking... Ford E-150 / 350. wagon.... Before you shut me out, here is my thinking... I am in the market for a van for several reasons, 1. security... bikes, gear, ez-up, tents, tools, spares, everything but gas can get inside one of these big buggers. 2. flat load floor.... In the cargo van, or the pass/wagon, flat floors. if you use say a standard body E-150 van, you pull all but the second row of seats, that gives you seating and belts for five, need more? leave another row in. The little bikes we are looking at will tie down on the seat base adaptors and can stay in the truck full time. Add a small cargo rack to the front or rear and you carry the smelly stuff in a secured box. Gas, oil, things like this. Even the little compressor we always seem to need for everyone els's machine.... 3. up to 20 MPG loaded! I rented a E-350 about 3 months ago and hauled every bit of 1500 LBs inside it and made 19 MPG. I was not being nice, i had no time to be nice. I even decided to run the Texas highway that allows 90 in places and i let that sucker strut.. Places pushing nearly a smooth dollar. 4. I can sleep in it... I fully intend to drive from Mid Texas to places more than a day's drive from home. With a few adds to the truck i will be able to be at least reasonably comfortable for say a three or four night stay. I will have to make allowances for food and the like, but most campgrounds will provide the potty and showers i will need and for pennies a night compared to a hotel. 5. Alarm systems can be extended to camper shells and even to bikes being locked to the truck on the outside. Think a product alarm system at say Best Buy. 6. The caravan might be a good people van, but it IS NOT a off road capable veichle. It is and always will be biased on a car platform and FWD. The E/van is a truck, and the biggest selling commercial delivery truck in the world. Sorry, Chrysler just can't compete. 7. OH !!!! E-vans re-sell better, insure cheeper, are more crash worthy and will take a lot more abuse than the Chrysler. Just a few of my thoughts, and there are plenty more.. Still only worth about 2 cents. Enjoy the ride Amigo. Blip...
  4. the Dodge looks much easier. Yes, i live in DFW, while not as humid as often as houston, we will get 60-80% and 100-110 deg. When you drive your car you would swear you were pushing a bow wake, and when you stop your car wallows.... geezz... AAC is a must i think... Enjoy the ride Amigo... Blip...
  5. That Dodge is flat not in the budget. Would be so cool.... Oh well, on to the next ideas. Lineaway, you say you bag it for the most part, cool, this is a bit more to my thinking, for this truck, can't see myself camping more than a few days at a streach. Do you happen to be in the Southwest? Or south? I am in texas, and i am telling you that AC is the next thing on the down the list from water for survival in the summer. Do you have a way to cool the van? Or is that in the ball park of buy a camper? Enjoy the ride Amigo... Blip...
  6. Cool, so we have a strong recomendation for the Nissan, a Dodge and a astro user, aa burban and a P/U with a shell.. Quite the spread... Do any of the van owners, users or any of you folks travel in them for say three to four days at a streach, sleeping and or cooking and the like? How do you kit them out for sleeping, cooking? Do you use a generator or shore power?
  7. Ok you Moto-mutts, lets get something going. Who uses what to haul their toys to the various meets and general play time rides? Do you favor vans? How about a trailer? Do you camp out of it? We want information! We want pictures! I am looking into a Moto van for myself, maybe an E-250/350 on the big side, all the way down to a Astro/Safari on the little end. Talk about it folks, lets see it! Blip...
  8. Here in the states we have the ability to buy military surpluss trucks like this one for next to nothing considering thier abilities. I wish i had the room to convert one! Blip...
  9. On the comment of fans. At one time I was in shape enough to play Paint ball. Several of the protective goggle makers offered small fans that did a reasonable job of keeping the goggles from foging up and your face at least a little cooler. Look for somthing like that and you might be able to modify it into your helmet, right under the bill. Idea anyway. So, airoh is the way to go for helmets? Blip...
  10. Well, extra money is exactly that, extra... Umm... But if I let the wife know how much I am willing to spend on this next new toy,I might not have a next new toy due to the EXTRA cost of the lawyer I would then need... See? It comes down to extra, and how you define the word.... ;-) Blip...
  11. I saw the PDF... Damn, now if I can see one in person, I might just be a goner... Pulling the trans in like 20 minuets if you were in a hurry, now that is cool.... Blip... P.S. You are not helping! You are supposed to talk me OUT of spending the extra money... right?
  12. OK, newbie here, umm.. check that, OLD newbie here... I have seen the Ossa on line, and it is believed they are attainable in the states here. Now, the question is, are they worth it? I have always liked the GasGas, and i do lean to that, but that Ossa is just the bee's knees to me. I love and am a sucker for new tech, and that motor has me itchy to take it apart... Not that I will, right off, but I will sooner or later, if nothing more than I will contrive a fault I want to fix... yeah, I guess I am that bad... I keep all of my bikes well past their prime and I am at least still loving the ownership of them, if not the competitive edge. Is the Ossa worth the extra money? Is it a proven motor? Tell me the likes and dislikes guys... help?
