    Brake Rotor Slop

Ok, So a little slop fore/aft is normal? If so, based on simple wear principles, any two parts that slip and make contact with each other repeatedly will wear under load; so where does the wear occur? Rotor or the bolts? or is it not enough to worry about? Thanks for the advice. For a while I thought it was the suspension and was kinda bummed because that's a much bigger issue than floating rotor slop.

    Brake Rotor Slop

2001 Rev-3. Purchased used but in incredibly good condition; lots of parts are still factory (i.e. front tire). Recently I noticed some slop in the front when I squeeze the front brake. At first I thought it was bushings in the forks but then a buddy helped feel around while I activated the brake and pushed up and down on the suspension. Turns out there's rotational slop in the front rotor that transfers to a 'clunk' in the suspension. My question is, how much of this rotational slop is within acceptable tolerance? or is it worn rotor bolts?
  3. Thanks for the suggestions. To answer a few questions. I flushed the case by draining the tainted oil while warm, refilling with ATF, running/riding for a good 15-20 mins, drained again, refilled with ATF. The guy I bought it from gave me the leftovers of his Dextron III fluids. So what I put in was exactly what he had been using. Perhaps I'll try an "oil" in the recommended viscosity and see if that makes a difference. Couple more questions: Conventional or Synthetic? Will I have clutch issues going from an ATF to an Oil? Do I need to tear into the clutch pack and rinse them or anything?
  4. I'm wondering what the recommended oils are to allow for smooth shifting. When purchased my '01 Rev3 had ATF fluid in it which sounded pretty normal. A few weeks ago I swamped the bike in a creek and drained, flushed and replaced the fluid (using again, ATF). But now on my first ride out I notice the shifting is really difficult. At times I need to almost force it into gear, upshifting and downshifting. Not sure why the big difference since I put the same type of fluid back in. Is there a different type of fluid besides ATF that anyone recommends?
  5. Hi there, First time trials owner, first time poster. Just picked up an '01 Rev 3 in excellent condition and so far its been a blast. As I'm getting more and more familiar with it, I'm starting to compile a list of questions I need to ask sooner or later. This one is regarding the sag in the front suspension. I'm going to call it "static sag" which is bike-weight only sag, no rider... It seems like the portion of suspension between complete extension (wheel off the ground) and the static sag is very sloppy. In other words, if I pick up on the bars to unload the suspension, then set it down if feels as if there's zero resistance before the static sag engages. The rest of the travel feels normal (I guess) but that initial stroke from full extension to 1-1.5" of travel feels dead. I went this long without giving it much thought but then found two GAS GAS bikes at the local shop and I cycled the suspension on them and they both feel much, much more progressive. Any input on this? Is it rather normal or is there something internal I can check/adjust. Thank you very much! Looking forward to learning a lot from this group!
