  1. Thanks for reply. I will recheck jubilee clip connections at Deloroto Carb. Old plug was blacker than normal( as opposed to tan colour) , I put that down to idling for a long time as I do not normally kill engine unless I am stopping for a long time.
  2. I have recently bought a Gas Gas 125, 2013 TXT pro which I am very happy with generally when it is running. My only issue is it is very hard to start. It can take 1/2 a dozen kicks sometimes. When it starts it revs really high for a few seconds and then dies down to normal. Once it has been running for a while and engine warmed up it starts easier but never first or second kick and needs the choke if stood for any length of time. I have changed plug, oil and cleaned filter and carb out, I also took flywheel cover off to check for water penetration and it was clean inside. I have ordered an NKG Iridium plug to see if that will help. Has anyone else experienced this with Gas Gas bikes and am I missing something fundamental.
  3. Rumour I heard is that sections will have a maximum time permitted and " minders" will be banned !
  4. I have same dilemma for my son and waiting for the release of the Vertigo 125 this year prior to buying. In truth I suspect all the established makes are all good -However I would like the amount of tweaking that goes on to a minimum hence waiting for Vertigo - Is fuel injection the way forward !
  5. In a nutshell yes - It would be interested to see the likes of Toni Bou in the Scottish - and whether he would even get a top 5. Clearly Sammy Miller in his day was a top man as well - but I think Doug edges it. Hope he can also teach my son is doing a course with him this summer.
  6. Thanks no issues in buying a programme just the logistics
  7. I m going up to Scotland for the weekend and plan to watch the pre 65 on Saturday and the start of the SSDT on Monday. Can anyone assist me with the route on Saturday & Monday or point me to any links.
  8. I had a same dilemma last year after not riding a bike for many years, I quite fancied a Beta 200 ( after an excellent day out riding one with Matthew & My son at Inch Perfect) but could not find one a 200. I had a similar budget and before buying a new or almost one wanted to try and see if I still liked trials and ended up buying a 250 2006 "t Sherco for circa £1600 from a local dealer in Brighouse, that was recommended, and the bike was fully serviced and appeared on the face of it to be in very good condition and had an easy life over 40+ rider. I also considered a 125 but did not fancy an ex youth rider 125 as it may potentially have had a very hard short life but never seen one that was in good enough condition. What I did not want in any event was a bike I would spend a great amount of time servicing / repairing. The bike has been excellent and as I am back into trials I will buy a new or almost new one as soon as I find one I like ( either a gas gas, beta or sherco 250 or possibly a new vertigo) I would recommend you buy one from a recommended trials dealer, many advertise on this site or alternatively from someone in a local trials club where you know the history. Best of luck.
  9. Thanks everyone very helpful. I fixed the bike last night. Bike now running well and starting. I have carried out all the suggested checks and it turns out the new plug was faulty combined with a mixture screw a mile out. Thanks Barry I never appreciated until I read your reply you had to adjust the mixture screw so often.

    Beta Evo 80 2010

My Son has a Beta Evo 80 which has started to get very hard to tick over evenly ( tickover speed varies) and needs a lot more choke to start even when hot. I have replaced plug, cleaned air filter, cleaned carb to no avail.. Appreciate these bikes do not have the refinement of the larger models but wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Ironically at a trial this weekend someone else was having a similar problem on a very new beta.. Any thoughts from Beta specialists
  11. Thanks crazybond, Good advice we are planning to do what you say. First trial is a local one near Todmorden next weekend.
  12. I am planning entering some trials this year, around west yorkshire with my son aged 12, and am slightly confused by the different terminology used and also whether a trial is restricted to the hosting club, I am assuming that if it is not stated as being restricted on Trials Central and further a pre entry is not required ( like the SSDT), it is safe to assume we just turn up with our ACU Licence and entry fee and pay on day. In the 80's when I last did a trial, north of the border, I do not recall references to Very easy, easy, beginners, novice, conducted course, youths, clubman b & clubman A. Whilst I fully appreciate conditions can change on the day making a course easier than or harder than envisaged, what I am looking for is some guidance between the difference in practice between :- Very Easy, Easy, Beginners, Novice, Conducted Course, Youth & Clubman B. .
  13. I have had a lot of dealings with RAS Sport and have bought 3 bikes from them. No issues what so ever, after sales service in particular was excellent. Best of luck
  14. Excellent article. It will be very interesting, who will be the next Dougie Lampkin, and where they will emerge from. Will it be Bumpy in West Yorkshire or further afield.
  15. I paid slightly more than £1600 for Bike from a local dealer I know. I wanted a bike that had not had a hard life (over 40's rider), and confidence that bike had been checked throughout, and fully serviced before I got it, and did not want a bike I would spend a lot of time working on. I have not had to buy any parts (other than a plug /filter which were less than £20 total) as good tyres, new chain, sprockets, grips, plug, fuel filter etc. I dare say you could buy cheaper on gum tree / ebay / trials central etc, I did look at some online however was slightly nervous they were an unknown quantity. Not sure how much sherco specific parts actually are, do not believe however any worse than equivalent gas gas / beta etc, and hopefully I will not find out as having got into trials again, I fancy upgrading next year to a new bike / or an excellent condition 2015 bike. Try Malcolm Rathmell Sports never spoke to them but understand they are very helpful Best of luck.
