  1. Thanks everyone for the advice. Decided in the end to go 50:1. With 4ltrs of petrol I carefully poured out the 80ml of oil, then let it trickle out to 100ml - just for luck! Got out for a few miles and caught a few tracks before it got dark. Wonder how long it'll be before she realises the jug is missing from the kitchen - LOL !!!!
  2. Thanks for your thoughts guys. All useful stuff for a returnee. Faussy - I didn't know what the manufacturers recommendation was, so thats hugely helpful. It all kind of stacks up. I collected it in the car, by pulling the front end off and rolling it back into the hatchback. In doing so about half a litre of unburnt oil tricked out the silencer/front pipe joint. If he's been running it at 33:1, that's likely a touch too much. I also recognise its an old one likely with a bit of wear in the bore. I'll start off at 50:1, take it gently for a while, and see how it pans out. Fingers crossed. Insurance and tax now all sorted out. Working away from home this weekend, so looking forward to getting back for a play!!
  3. Thanks for that. I hadn't thought about it being too rich. I was more worried about not putting enough oil in it. Consequence of too rich? Smokey exhaust, Fouled plug, poor starting. Can being too rich do it damage? Consequence of to not enough oil? Bottom end wear/seizure? I live in Glasgow in Scotland. A good summers day is 20oC, a very good summers day is 25oC. Winter could be 0 - 5oC. I plan on 2-3 mile road sections in urban areas at 30mph limits, linking up industrial waste land tracks/trails where I'll be pottering about. Bike could run for an hour at a time without stopping.
  4. Its a long time since I've had a two stroke and they were always autolube. Can anyone advise premix ratio for a 98 TX270? Road use between off road sections Previous owner said 33:1 but I wasn't convinced (more my nagging doubt than any concern about previous owner) Thanks
  5. Thanks for info and invites guys. I'll probably just have a wee shot local this weekend before venturing further afield. Got insurance sorted out for it today. (Road registered) Got a new car coming October, so will build a rack for that rather than traversing the country with the trailer, then get out and see you's out there Thanks again
  6. Thanks for the info. Do I need to have proper trials gear to take part? Ive got a trials helmet, but planning on using Army boots and waterproof socks initially. Don't want to buy boots until I decide I'm going to stick at it.
  7. Hi all. Grew up riding trials bikes in my youth (Bultaco Sherpa's/Montesa Cota's), before moving onto road bikes. Currently run a 1996 Yamaha GTS 1000 on the road, and bought a road registered 1998 Gas Gas TX270 last week. Plan was to scoot about various quiet brown field industrial sites around the East End of Glasgow, departing before I attract any attention, however will likely contact the Bob McGreggor academy having found them on the net. Would love to hear how long other newbies took before taking part in events? Is it something you can just give a go if your bold enough, or have you got to go through "peer" training/assessment/qualification before being allowed to take part? Thanks/regards, Stephen
