  1. Hi All, Having searched the forums it seems I am not alone when it comes to cutting through your boot with the chain. A few folks suggested an extended chain guard from trialscast. I have tried looking them up and they dont seem to exist any longer. Any other helpful hints and tips, before I go and buy new boots and do exactly the same. Thanks Kev
  2. Further update, it very much seems that oil mixture was to blame. A full days trialling in today and the motor never missed a beat.
  3. Hey Guys, quick update. I put more oil in the fuel, after checking the water pump and the flywheel cover. I have ran it and got it up to temperature with no noise occurring. It way well be that the oil mix was simply to lean. However I do still need to get out and give it a proper run to check. Thanks for the advice guys.
  4. I have ran the beta for several hours prior to this happening. probably about 12+ since I have owned it. Its a new noise, not a std noise. I shall investigate further tomorrow.
  5. running 80 to 1 synthetic oil - putoline. had run ok so far but maybe a little too lean. only really makes the noise when warm, I have added some more oil to the fuel and a little down the bore to see if it assists. other than that its spanner time.
  6. I can but hope this is the issue and she is a little dry. going to get a new water pump impeller as it is slack on the shaft anyway. certainly sounds like that could be the issue, other wise I may have an engine in bits soon. Tried ringing Lampkins, but they are on hols until the 4th Jan.
  7. All, I'm looking for a little advice on my Beta 290 evo 2010. Was out yesterday for a few hours and the bike started to whine a little, normally on over run / shut throttle. It gets worse the warmer the bike gets. The bike however is still free revving. and has plenty of compression etc. The only thing I can think off was running down hill on a closed throttle prior to the noise. Water pump is showing signs of wear but however is a little slack on the shaft. I see there is a higher flow pump option which I may well fit. Are there any thoughts on the possible cause.?? Has it been a known issue. Also where is the best place to get value for money parts. ??? I'm in the UK. Thanks Kev
  8. Just thought I'd make a little post about local bike shops. In this day and age it is very easy to just go on line see what your after and click the buy it now button. Whilst however online shopping can get you a cheap deal, and often free delivery, it can however give you sub standard knock off parts too. On line simply doesn't do all those other things a LBS can do. Your Local bike shop can normally: Complete repairs, Source odd parts supply the necessities there and then Allow you to try things like Boots n Helmets on. Easy return of items if faulty / don't fit correctly offer help and advice Dig you out a hole, (where not even 24hr delivery can assist) link you up with like minded folks, trials practice areas etc have some witty banter. Not to mention your helping the local economy, rather than an importer / faceless warehouse etc. All that and some don't cost much, if any more than the tinterweb. Saying all that I really must mention my new (as I am just getting into trials) LBS. Ian @ SGS Trialsport - http://www.strathgarage.co.uk/page_2789183.html The assistance he has offered has been fantastic, from tips to parts, and all at competitive prices. Ran by a man passionate about trials, assisting like minded folks. Hopefully you have a LBS like mine near you !!!
  9. Ye cannae beat some ****ty riding gear on your first trial. I was nearly wearing a full face road lid. It means expectations are low, and everyone thinks you have no clue and no cash. Rock up with all the new gear on and everyone thinks "fresh oot the wrapper, newbie erse." Next outing I'll be fresh out the box. And Sorry Breagh, met so many folks on Sunday, that were all mega friendly, which one were you ? Alan ?
  10. Cheers B40rt, Was contemplating the trip on Sat, don't know if the bridge is out, or indeed the weather will support. Might see you there tho.
  11. Figure I had better introduce myself. My name is Kevin, and live in Fife, Scotland. I'm in my 40's and decided to start trialling with a few of my workmates. Dug in and bought me a Beta 290 2010 EVO, and all the new kit. ( I'm like action man - an outfit for every eventuality) Anyhow did my first trial on Sunday and got a few cleans on the "b" route. So well chuffed. Anyone with helpfull hints / tips / places to ride local etc much appreciated. Kev
