  1. Thanks for all the replys. I've emailed Jim and called Mike so with any luck it'll be looking good again soon.
  2. Long story short my gas gas was stolen and the fenders were cut off in order to disguise it, I ended up tracking it down and getting it back but she's in rough shape! i'm having a lot of trouble finding replacement fenders (front and rear) and radiator shrouds for it to get it back looking good again. Are they even available and if not, has anyone attempted or know if it's doable to update to the newer style that has the separate seat area? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.
  3. it's together; the plug wire is tighter than I'd like and I cut the face of the fan off a bit, spaced the motor toward the radiator for additional clearance between the motor housing and the plug boot and cut out several plugs for less failure points. Much cleaner now.
  4. nobody has a txt that they have looked at the wiring on? was hoping I could get some help here...
  5. guess I'm not finding any real parts section on there; they appear to have a few random parts, mufflers, pegs, etc. under the 'parts' section but no microfiche that I can find. do I just call or email to request parts?
  6. I'm having real problems finding replacement parts for my 99 model anywhere but especially in the US. I'm looking for a kickstand spring, any tips on where to get one or what may cross over and work? I thought of using one off a KLX or similar and just cutting the nub off the kickstand and re-welding in a higher location to work with the shorter spring however I would rather just get the proper spring if I can find one.
  7. love the bike! I too just got into trials and it's quickly becoming my favorite type of riding. Too many high speed crashes on MX bikes... Best of luck to you as you venture into trials!
  8. bent rotor (unlikely but possible), a caliper mount that's catching (I'm new to trials but if it's a floating caliper like MX bikes this would be a possibility), bent tab on a brake pad, a rock or gunk in the brake assembly somewhere? not sure but it might give you a few things to look for. also make sure your brake pedal moves freely and doesn't bind somewhere.
  9. Thanks for the pic Beau; unfortunately the mounts look different between yours and mine. it runs crossways instead of down the frame tube.
  10. I just put a fan motor for a Honda helix on my txt270 and it fits perfectly. The only difference is that the mounting tabs on the new fan are tapped rather than slotted for the rubber grommets. No need to press the motor out or anything, 30 minute swap and $40 for the brand new fan. This version comes with the same threaded d-shaft and same fan even.
  11. Hi guys; I'm new to the forum (and trials) and have some very general questions about a TXT270 that I picked up as a project. I have yet to ride it much but I'm having an absolute blast so far! someone had been into the electrical before and the regulator was screwed to the radiator fan shroud. I doubt this was the stock location but can't find a good picture or microfiche that mentions where to mount it. Can anyone confirm the proper location? the rectifier was mounted to the same hole that the CDI box was; is this correct? it was just forward (closer to the front of the bike) of the coil. there is a stud on the bottom side of the frame just behind the fork with nothing on it. should there be something mounted there (ground wires? regulator?)? the spark plug wire is stretched quite tightly. Is the coil supposed to mount with the plug wire coming out the right hand side or the left hand side? the temperature switch is also contacting the spark plug boot/wire. Which direction should the prongs to this switch point? I'm guessing toward the right to provide proper clearance but I would appreciate confirmation of this. Also, this switch is in the middle of the hose with the short piece of hose up nearest the radiator. Not that it matters but is this correct or did someone put it on upside down? Sorry for all the questions; just looking to put the bike back the way it should be!
  12. Excited to be part of the forum! I lucked into finding a 99 model gas gas txt270 close to home on Craigslist. I live in the flats of Kansas but hope to find some places to try the new toy out once I get a few electrical things worked out. Someone has cut into the harness and moved a few things around so if you care to provide some insight on coil, regulator and rectifier locations please chime in on the thread I'm about to start in the gas gas section.
