  1. Adam If you read the post you are mentioned separately to last years B class lads and I do know you are in your last year. No need to be upset!! You were mentioned in a good way
  2. You not far out there No 1........I think! There or thereaboouts in th A's will be the top B's from last year Morphett,Thompson,Robson, Richardson, Wiggins,Ayres, Sands,Sprintall, Stephens also Adam Jones. I believe the top 10 will be tight and the order will change every event which is healthy for the sport. Money definatly on Challoner though. For the B's though agin not far out but watch out for Keelan Hancock,Josh Brain who isnt going to do all that travelling for nothing and Stay and Gosden who train hard and are not scared of anything. Still, its not over till its over and I hope injury or mechanical failure does'nt play a part.
  3. We've done afew of these and be careful about trying to back bleed a Beta rear brake as some models have a ballbearing in place to stop too much stuff entering via the bleed nipple. After all it is for expelling rather than intake. The best Way is to disconnect the rod from the rear brake pedal then use a screwdriver or similar to activate the plunger on the master cylinder and bleed conventionaly. The advantage of thi is because the brake pedal only moves the plunger afraction of its potential movement and it there fore takes forever/never!! tobleedit through. I'm pretty sure this is the best way as Johnboy himself helped me out when we had the same problem. Good luck
  4. Glad you're findimg this useful. if yuor wrist is at the wrong angle for hitting obstacles you may need to overgrip the throttle ie roll your hand over the bar sowhen the throttle is open wide whereyou want it your wrist is also where you want it. the disadvantage isthat it is harder to shut right off but this doesnt matter so much now you are using the clutch to control your speed. With practise you shut the throttle right off by relaxing your grip and letting it snap shut then grab a handful of over grip when you're about to nail it again.you would nt bother though if there are only moments in between. You will be revving the bike more but this engine runs better the more it is revved and have you heard how the125's rev when they are taking on big stuff? Marky mark
  5. My son had one of those in 2002 and came third in the british youth D championship so I know they will do the business standard apart from the carb mod. For his practise he rode the bigger adult sections. The key to riding this bike at an advanced level is to nail the throttle to the stop and work the clutch like the top 125 boys you will be amazed what it will do! The more you rev it the better it will run the key to bigger climbs is to use first gear reving it so hard the power seems to go flat -the hill will often take the revs out of the bike and drop it into peak power and it will go further than you think. I have seen this bike out climb adult bikes because it has not got the guts to spin the rear wheel or lift the front. Hope this helps

    Rev3 125

Stu My boy has an 06 rev 125 is about your size and rides youth B britsh champs and expert locally and lack of power has never been an issue. In fact a friend of mine tried his 05{06 is better} and replaced his 250 with one.He reckons it saves him marks every trial and believe it or not because he can now boss the bike he is far more confident and aggressive and the grin factor when he beats his mates who are still on the bigger bikes has to be seen to be believed! The truth is a very high proportion of us are overbiked.

    Clutch Noise

Dasher It sounds to me that you might just have the normal Beta clutch chatter. If the drag is only noticable when the bike is on the stand but not when riding or sitting on it I would be tempted to leave it alone. Thinking about it one new Beta we had did have abit of drag but changing the gearbox oil to 75w cured it.

    Clutch Noise

Dasher My boy rides his beta pretty hard and has broken clutchplates before which gave symptoms of increased noise but the difference in operation was hardly noticable. I would take the large round inspection cover off on the left hand side of the engine and unbolt the clutch and have alook.Lay the bike over on its right side and you wont even have to drain the oil. Good luck
  9. Speaking for myself a B class dad I would like to say thanks very much to the organisers for a well thought out trial. 20 sections 2laps 6 hour time limit sensible lap length A and B starting well away from each other on less challenging sections to get it moving Top marks for all of the above points.I dont think anyone took the p*%s on the extended time limit and I saw no stress in the ques or MX riding between the sections. Top job involving the Top Trials Team!!
  10. Some good points moneymuncher. I dont think anyone minds less able lads having ago when the no of sections, riders and time limit allow this to happen without 20 rider tale backs and good riders being timed out through no fault of their own. The other point of course is what constitutes a less able rider.Losses of over 100 are not uncommon espiecially in the first year of going up aclass but that doesnt make them a bad rider. My own view is that it is arider who is having 5after5 after5 and becomes adanger to himself.Ofton entered by over enthusiastic Dad who misguidedly thinks it will do the boy good. It is a difficult one to call but I think most of it can be overcome with 20 sections and a5.5hr time limit.
  11. The first two A & B nationals have prompted much discussion re time limits, out of class etc. Ithought it might be helpful for some experienced lads and dads to say here how they would like to see national trials set out. As a clerk of the coirse myself and trials national dad in my 5th season I dont want any organisers to see this as critisam as I know that running atrial is far from a perfect science and I guarantee you will not please all the people all the time.It also depends on hw much help you get. Iwould like to kick off with some of my own thoughts. 1.Ideally with 100 riders or so about 20 sections and 2 laps.Time limit 5.5 hours.I think most would agree this about optimum to reduce 2 below without having the observers standing there all day or having to have a ridiculous number of them. 2.As Adsy said in the Otter Vale thread these trials should be about skill balance finess and aggression IN the sections.NOT who is the fastest nutter between the sections and good at que jumping. We have the wrong bikes, wrong protective gear and wrong insurance policy for this type of behavior!! 3.Tough big sections should be encouraged. We are after all trying to bring onthe next generation of world round riders arent we? Abritish championship isnt the place for aleisurely ride round and alot of beginners and lesser riders would gain more benefit from watching.A bit harsh maybe but I place myself in this category in the adults. 4.When designing a section bear in mind whether it needs one or two observers to mark &punch cards to keep it flowing. 5.At the briefing make it clear that any rule breaches, observer intimidation will not be tolerated and follow it thruogh no matter who the rider is. Thats it for the moment. All the nationals are very well done and I take my hat off to all the organisers and with some positive feed back and fine tuning maybe we can all get even more enjoyment out of it. What do you think?
  12. When we did the nationals in 2002 I Think Joe Deakin had a manual clutch conversion on his which was manufactured by his dad Paul who has an engineering firm. I dont know contact details but they are at all the B nationals and come from the Birmingham area. Hope this helps
