    Rear Shock

I need to get serviced my rear shock. Can somebody recommend me a service or shop in UK ? I heard about Lampkins, but actually they exchange the shock to a reconditioned one, and this way it's a bit expensive. Do BVM service this kind of shocks? If not, then what other suspension shops are in UK? Thanks, Cheers.

    Rear Shock

Thank you very much for the great help. I didn't knew that this is the situation with these shocks. The bike is a Rev3, 2001. I am only a novice, and I ride every weekends. I tried the bike out today, and I realised that the damping is totally gone on the rear shock. Doesn't matter how much is in the bolt, there is absolutely no damping. And actually I found signs on the bottom of the shock that it's leaking oil, too. I will try to find some service and have it rebuilt. Thanks again.

    Rear Shock

Hi! I was playing with the suspension settings and I realised that the rear suspension's damping seems less than the front suspension's damping. I mean, if I turn the bolt on the rear totally in (until it stops) and I turn the bolt on the front totally in, too, then the rear seems still faster than the front. If I want the suspensions to move at the same time, then if I turn the bolt in fully on the rear, then I need to turn the front only 18 clicks, which is on the half way of the setting (30 clicks is the maximum). I can't see any leaking oil on the rear shock. Is this whole thing normal? The rear suspension moves faster than the front because it's linkless? Thanks, Cheers.

    Scratched Piston

Hi! I've replaced the piston in my Rev3. But now (after about 40 hours rode with the new piston) the engine was off again, and my new piston has many small scratches on it. Not deep at all, but there are many of them. Clearly on the intake and the exhaust side. The cylinder is the same. I can't figure out where did the dirt enter. I've checked the air box for leaking, and it's not leaking. I didn't found any dirt or any water in the bottom of the air box. I was regularly cleaning the air filter, and I always used air filter oil. However I did not put too much oil on it, because last time when I put too much oil, the engine didn't idle well. Both manifolds seems ok. I was also thinking that when the engine was off, some dirt entered. But I tried to work as clean as possible. And because it's scratched on the intake and exhaust side, I'm thinking that it sucked in the dirt and did not enter during the engine rebuild. Maybe I'm wrong? Can you guys help me what else to I check? I'm out of ideas, and I don't want to rebuild the engine until I don't find the source of the problem (because the same will happen to the new engine).

    Top End Gasket

Please could somebody tell me which side of the steel top end gasket goes up? And is it a good idea to increase the compression ratio by installing the engine without the top end gasket? Does it make any harm to the engine?
  6. I have another question: How can I remove the shift drum? I need to unscrew the bolt in the middle of the drum?
  7. My shift drum has about 0.5 mm play at the end. Of course, with the cases together. Also, I can move it about 1 mm out and in. After I removed the detent spring it was obvious that it has a play. What do you think? Is this normal? Or my drum bearings are gone?
  8. Do the engine make a difference in the gear shifting? I mean even if the engine is shut down, the gear should shift perfectly? Or it needs the engine to be on?
  9. So, I need to change the big end bearing, because there is up and down play. I understand that this is a difficult thing, and I need to bring the motorcycle to a motorcycle service. My question is: what do I need to buy? I buy a new big end bearing and that's all? Or I need also a new crank case gasket, head gasket? And what else? Another question: my engine is split now. Do I need to bring the whole engine to the motorcycle service? Or can I get out somehow the crank shaft (or whatever) and bring only this part to the service? If yes, then how can I get out the crank shaft?
  10. I'm planning to split the crank case and to take a look inside. How much is a flywheel puller?
  11. On the clutch side I've removed the whole cover, and I've inspected the selector mechanism, and it's fine. The problem is that the drum doesn't want to rotate. When the drum is rotating, than at half way it stops . What to I do next?
  12. I still have this problem. I have a better explanation: So, when I shift it's like somthing is blocking the lever at halfway of it's movement. And I need to keep pushing (or pulling when shifting upwards), so the lever passes throught this "block" and finally shift. And this "block" it's much stronger when I try to shift twice. When I try to shift at the second time then the lever still blocks halfway, and I still keep pushing it, but at this time the lever will not pass trought this "block". And that's why I can shift only one at a time. Because if I don't wait a bit, and I don't use the actual gear for a few seconds, then this "block" is stopping me to shift again. I would definitely say that the crash caused the problem. The shift lever was bashed pretty hard. I've read that exists a rivet in the selector mechanism, which is a built-in safety feature designed to save expensive transmission parts in the event of a hard object bashing the shift lever. Does anybody know where is this rivet? I don't even have an idea about that is on the left side or the right side... So any idea is welcome.
  13. Thanks betarick for the answer. The clutch is in perfect condition. I've tried several types of gearbox oil, but this not solved the problem. I've read that exists a rivet in the selector mechanism, which is a built-in safety feature designed to save expensive transmission parts in the event of a hard object bashing the shift lever. Where is this rivet? How can I inspect it, so I can see if it's sheared or not? Or does anybody have any idea about what could cause this shifting problem? Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
  14. I have problems with the gear shifter. I have a Rev 3 250, 2001. I can't shift gears only one at a time. So when I'm in 5th gear, and I reduce my speed significant, then I can't just shift twice down, and continue in 3th gear. It will remain in 4th, and I need to use the 4th gear for a couple of seconds until I can downshift another one and finally reach 3th gear. Shifting up shows the same problem. In a crash I hit the gear shifter, but I'm not sure that this is the cause of the problem. What should I do? What parts should I inspect/replace?
