  1. Went to the Mortimer 'fun trial' today - nice selection of stages. Definitely be returning as it's just over ten minutes away from me! For the person who gave me some fuel - cheers again and it's 'seymors arena' with northberksmcc that was the trials practice area I was talking about. This is the trials practice place you were talking about I presume - http://www.theoldquarry.co.uk/ .
  2. Indeed, thus the costs a lot more . I believe your typical club 250 was more around 85hp or so - with the ones making silly power right at the top level with the big teams with big budgets and mechanics that weren't also the rider and trying to keep a 9-5 job going the rest of the time . Oh and my RS250 came out at just over 53hp at the rear wheel on the dyno - with clean pipes and a simple airbox mod I could have easily had 58hp or so. Still the most fun road bike I've had so far (though I have high hopes for my 200EXC with supermoto wheels .)
  3. Cheers monoped - lots of useful details there. Only thing I couldn't find details on is 'Reading' - do you mean South Reading MCC by that? Unfortunately, as ever, searching for
  4. Excellent - very useful info, cheers! Think I'll try and head up on Wednesday evening for the practice - do you know, off hand, when it runs to and if it's ok to get there late? - Probably be about half six or a bit later by the time I've got home from work, then got the van out. Could see if I can leave earlier, but usually am busy Wednesday lunch times, so it's a bit cheeky to leave early as well.
  5. Looking to get out to play on my new (to me) Beta. I know Ixion run trials not to far from me (I'm in Reading), but unfortunately their next one clashes with the south reading mcc H&H I was planning to do (both on a Saturday too!) SRMCC also runs one trial a year I believe, but that's some way off now! Any other clubs I should be looking at? - Of course also interested to hear about general places to practice.
  6. In club racing where it's a case of using of grip positions, there can be more question over 'glory hunters' trying to stay a rookie for longer, or go in a class where they're the big fish. If such people are bothered by winning, it's reasonable to presume that others are going to be annoyed by losing. Me, I entered a class two high in a cross country mountain bike race and managed to be the very slowest rider out of the whole day as I had to do more laps than I could reasonably do in a decent time - but I didn't enter to win, I entered to ride and enjoyed it for that regardless.
  7. I suspect though you're thinking about production 4 stroke machines versus competition 2 strokes? And presumably not in classes where the two are trying to compete on fairly equal grounds. I've seen cases of GP 250s doing pretty well in powerbike races at some tracks - if you had a capacity limited 4 stroke racing against the 250s, I suspect the 4 stroke would cost a lot more.
  8. Another 'what bike' question, I'm afraid. The 315r seems to be a regularly recommend first-time-trials bike, the Rev3 also seems to get some good reviews and it seems can be got for around what I was hoping to pay if you look at earlier models (ideally under
  9. Well, I sent in my entry for the Sam Cooper, but unfortunately I got it in right at the last minute, so it's filled up before mine arrived. (I did end up wimping-out and sticking down 'pampera' on the entry form, what with having one sat in my garage at the moment.) Me and a few friends were considering going to Tom's Farm (Mid Wales general off-road 'play' area) over the bank Holiday, so if they have spaces left (only 50 entries I think), I was wondering about entering this as it's on the way kinda: The Rockfield Trail Bike Trial - May 2008 Any comments or experience of it or similar?
  10. Competing at the lowest level wouldn't worry me - just doing it for a bit of fun, etc. As I said earlier, money isn't a massive issue if we're talking a cheap trials bike, but space is. The Husaberg is already geared fairly low on the enduro rear wheel and has has decent amounts of low down go. Getting a trials rear isn't a big issue; May well end up doing a hare and hounds that needs them at some point. And more importantly, takes up a lot less space than a whole new bike . That 'classic trial' on the 18th of May definitely looks interesting and pretty close to me too, so think I'll see about entering that, then can go from there.
  11. Cheers for the through TJP - definitely not looking for anything too extreme at the moment. Scorpa: that definitely looks interesting. Don't worry, not aiming to win anything and probably prefer to do it on my own bike, but I do know two people who own pamp's, and one of them is borrowing my 675 next month, so I'm sure I could acquire the use of one if I decided to go that way . majestyman: A quick google didn't reveal much about 3 stage trials; any more info? I'm wanting something that's keeping the speed down really, as I've been advised that while my leg is fine for general use, I really *really* don't want to do anything bad to it until the metal's out. Done some greenlaning with some technicaly bits fine, but don't want to put myself in too much speed-related competition (I do tend to get a bit too competitive, perhaps ). Oh and I've got a full-on enduro (Husaberg 501E) as well as a more trail orientated bike (CCM 404E) and also got a CRM125 that needs a bit of work too.
  12. Cheers for the suggestion of the LDR - have heard about them in the past, but never really looked into it, so am doing so now! I wouldn't mind getting a trials bike at some point, however space is rather an issue: http://www.giffould.com/r/pics/garageout.jpg (The FX400 at the back will be sold if I can find anyone to buy it, but that space is hopefully going to be filled by a TE610, G650 or maybe a 690 enduro.) Might sell my 404 if I decide the above bike is suitable, which'd leave me some money and space to get one; but, regardless; I'd prefer to try the general idea first before splashing out. Obviously I'm not expecting to do even begin to do ok - would just be something to have a bit of fun with.
  13. Hi, New to all this. Always fancied a go at trials, but never really got around to it. Due to a previous (road-track racing) injury I've got to take it relatively easy until I have a bit of metal removed; was thinking it might be a good time to have a play at some basic trials as doing enduro, which I'd hoped to have a play with this year, is probably a bit risky. So; what are the possibilities for entering a basic-style trial on an enduro bike? I'm lead to believe a lot of trials offer the option for enduro bikes to enter. Can I just sign up and go along, or do I need to do ACU stuff, etc (haven't renewed my road-race ACU licence this year as won't be needing it for a while)? Any events not far too far from the Thames Valley area that are recommended? G
