Shorwell Chalk Pit was the venue for the eighth round of the 2015 Winter Championship, the Medina Cup. The Club would like to thank Ralph Cook who kindly allowed us to use this great piece of land. On behalf of everyone I would also like to thank Calvin Wright, who stepped in at short notice to provide us with six really good and clever sections.
The turnout was once again disappointing, but for those that made the effort, a great afternoon’s trialling followed.
Will West had to be on his toes today with Peter Carr also competing in the Expert class – Will, as steady as ever, stamped his authority with another smooth and confident performance to convincingly take the win from Peter. Brothers Mike and Geoff Taylor fought it out in the Intermediate class, it was Mike who just finished ahead of Geoff, just three marks separated them! Geoff did have a golden opportunity to take the win but became confused on section five and missed the flags which resulted with the maximum five penalty marks being awarded. Andy Scott Jackson took the win in the Clubman class with an impressive performance to earn another ten Championship points.
Paul Kent was the sole rider in the Novice class but still rode really well to lose only seventeen marks. Nick Symes and course setter Calvin Wright had a real battle in the Twinshocks, after a ‘school boy’ error on section three, when Nick Symes followed the wrong route to incur the maximum five penalty marks and left Calvin leading for most of the trial. The last lap proved decisive with a determined effort from Nick who just about sneaked into the top spot. Phil Sylvester should be really pleased with his latest bike. Phil has been dogged with reliability issues up to now but today took the Adult Beginners and bagged himself ten Championship points. Wayne Brodie took the win in the Sportsman class finishing with a loss of seven marks!
Jos Wright rode brilliantly (with only his front brake to rely on) and dropped just fourteen marks in the Youth Expert class – good effort Jos. Harvey Grieve, at only his second attempt in the Youth Novice class, earned himself another win – keep up the good work. Harrison Crickmore took the Youth E class with another solid performance. Harrison had a try at some of the harder routes and should be really pleased with his scores.
The next round (the Frank Pragnell Cup) will take place on Sunday 27/09/15. The venue is still yet to be confirmed – please check the Club website nearer the time – it will be updated once we have confirmation.
