Bewdley MCC Autumn Trial

Anthony ChidleyAnthony ChidleyThe Bewdley Motor Cycle Club organised their Autumn Trial on the steep sandy banks of Tall Trees, Tenbury Wells, where thirty eight riders were greeted by a morning of late summer sunshine. The course plotters had laid out a course to suit the five classes and the results showed their efforts well and truly justified.

Ex Enduro rider and Bewdley club member Chris Tett (Beta), had a convincing win over Mick Flanagan (OSSA) and Welshman John Morgan (Gas Gas) in the Expert class. Honours were evenly shared on the first four sections, but Tett had an inspired ride on section five, only losing a two and three cleans and kept his composure for the remainder of the trial.

The 50/50 Route gave National rider Buster Regan (Honda TLR) another of the trials convincing wins over Schoolboy Josh Bawden (Gas Gas). Reagans started nervously losing a single mark on the first section, where Bawden managed four cleans. But thereafter, Regan stamped his authority on the class and drew well clear. Third position was in doubt all day, with only three marks separating Mark Steen (Gas Gas), Alice Minta (Beta) and Melvyn Whitelaw (Scorpa). Gaining a two mark from the start, Steen just managed to take the final podium position.

The Clubman Route gave Cheetah mounted Steve Thompson a successful ride, but it was only just.  Andy Regan (Beta) headed Thompson for much of the event, but a loss of four marks on section seven, handed the win to the Cheetah rider. Kidderminster riders, Jim Pickering and Gavin Andrews, both Drayton Bantam mounted, closely matched one another for marks lost throughout the trial, but a costly loss of two marks on the final lap at section one, relegated Andrews to fourth positon.

The Clubman B route led to the only tie decider of the day, between Tony Field ((Beta) and Dave Taylor (BSA).  Field almost managed to remain clean all day, but even a loss of concentration on the final lap gave him the class win. Anthony Chidley (Gas Gas) finished three marks in arears of the winner, but it could have been a different story, had he not lost three marks on section seven.

A conducted route of youth competitors on OSET electric machines proved successful, with Ethan Richardson taking a clear win over Jack Moore. Thomas Vick had a trial long dual with Thomas Blake, but the Bewdley schoolboy took the third position by just two marks.
