S3 Parts Championship Powys Trophy Trial

72 riders entered today's Mid Wales Powys Cup Trial a round of the S3 National Clubman Championships. 7 none starters made it a total of 65 people setting off in to the Welsh hills from 9.31 this morning. The weather was good to us, with only a splattering of rain on some bits of the course, the rest baking in sunlight.

One the first punch card James Fry had the lead on 3, having an uncharacteristic dab on section 8 and a solid 2 on the very slippery section 20. Tom Sagar and Tom Minta both took a wet bummed 5 on that section leaving them on 5 and 6 respectively. Minta's ride looking to be the best of the day, right up until the point where he dumped himself in the stream head first, and commented that maybe a safety dab would have done it. But in the second half the sections always get generally trickier. Sagar having 6 individual dabs over the rest of the lap, while Minta and Fry both had a 3 and 3 dabs. Scores were scattered over a variety of sections. So we finished up with Fry on 9, Minta on 11 and Sagar on 12.

In the clubman support class Paul Sagar came home on 18, a fair way ahead of the rest of the field. Ashley Wood, lost 5 on time but just sneaked in on most cleans for 2nd place ahead of James Lamin.

Quite a few disqualifications on time for the clubman class, but most of them happy to ride around and enjoy the ride oblivious to the time. Was a bit ironic that every one of the four enduro lads that Tom Sagar had dragged in to the event lost penalties on time - oops. I'm hearing Tom may have stitched them up :-)

Thanks to all involved, particularly Elwyn Williams who works for weeks before the event putting the flags out. No more names in case I miss some, but always great that we can get enough observers out there to make it a great event.
