After a hectic few weeks involving the Scottish Six Days Trial and World Championship opener, we return to domestic action this coming Sunday with Round 3 of the RT Keedwell British Championships seeing the riders head down to Aberdulais in South Wales for the St David’s trial organised by the Neath Club. The venue for Sunday’s event is a usual Llety Rafel Farm, Postcode SA10 8HR with the action starting at 9.30 am when the Expert class with get things underway.
The 12 subs at the Farm provide a good test of rider skills with a variety of differing hazards. For spectators there is excellent parking and usually a choice of easily viewed hazards along the top ridge or you can have a good stroll around if you are feeling more energetic.
We mentioned earlier that the Experts would be first away and at the moment there is a good three way scrap going on between James Fry, Dan Thorpe (2015 Champion) and Richard Sadler. James holds a four point lead from Dan with Richard seven points behind Fry but it is still very much early days in the series.
The Youth A Class has seen newcomer Billy Green take two wins out of two which has given him a 10 point advantage of Duncan MacColl, and Josh Hanlon both of whom contested the 2016 series. Also equal with them is Oliver Smith on the Oset with two third places so far. Billy Green has however looked very solid so far and the other riders will need to get on terms with him pretty quickly.
The main Championship Class has seen the comeback of Michael Brown as a title contender. A second place and a win sees him go into round three with a four point lead over Gas Gas teamster Jack Price with Jack Sheppard leading the Beta challenge in third. All three had very good outings in the SSDT. Michael has the experience of many campaigns behind him but the younger set is coming through well so there is little room for error at the top. Dan Peace currently lies in fourth place with his younger brother Jack fifth having jumped straight from the A class youth on a 125 to the main series.
