Red Rose Classic Club Championship

red rose classicRed Rose Classic MCC brought the curtain down on another season of trialling when they hosted the final round of their club championship. Almost 50 riders turned out for four laps of ten sections at a new venue for Red Rose at Ramsgreave Hall Farm, on the outskirts of Blackburn. Clerks of the course Paul Whittaker, David Wilkinson and Mel Dibb set out a typically Red Rose challenging trial, with no rider getting into single figures.

Lowest score of the day went to Stewart Ormesher who notched up just ten penalties on his Bantam to secure class C. Second place went to the vastly-experienced John Maxfield, also on a Bantam, on 15 with Jim Tennant (Francis Barnett) rounding off the top three with 20 marks.

In the twinshock class T, Stephen Jarman’s 18 marks was enough to take the win on his Honda, closely followed by David Wilkinson (Fantic) and Steven Mycock (Honda) on 23 and 25 respectively.

The retirement of John Dugdale left Tim Baker with a clear run on his Ariel to win class Ae with 101 marks, and it was the same in class D, with Eric Atkinson and his James.

Class Ce honours went the way of Mal Cocking and his BSA, finishing on 18 marks, five ahead of runner-up Matt Williamson (Bantam). Peter Williamson claimed third on his BSA.

In the most popular class, John Wilson’s score of 32 was enough to take Ce, with Mel Dibb (Bultaco) on 41 and Malcolm Bell, on another Bultaco, on 46.

Red Rose Classic MCC would like to thank the clerks of the course, the observers and the landowners. Their final event of 2017 is a Christmas fun trial on December 30 at Copy Pit, Cliviger. Nearest postcode is BB10 4SZ.
