YMSA Winter Trial

ymsaThe YMSA held its first event of 2018 at Dudwood Farm last Sunday. The weather was dry but very cold with the ground extremely muddy, making the ten sections very tricky for most of the riders. A large and high quality entry included numerous British and World champions.

The Youth A class saw success for last years B class stars in their first hard route event. The first three were only covered by a few dabs with Mitch Brightmore taking the win from Charlie Smith and established A class rider Gus Oblein in third.

B class saw a larger number of marks separating the first three. 2017 British C class champion Harry Turner took the win by a convincing margin from Ash Brightmore with Alice Minta putting in a great ride to take third.

The C class route looked tough but Lewis Hurdsman put in a solid ride to take the win from Charlie Crossland with Jasper Fox taking the final podium spot.

Jenson Fox was the only finisher on a very tough D class route and so took the win.

Youth Novice saw a repeat of last years all girl battle at the top, but this time Libby Tett got the better of Olivia Brooksbank. The only guy on the podium was third placed Zak Whalen.

The best ride of the day saw ex-Trial 125 World Champion Jack Peace take the win from current Trial2 World Champion Iwan Roberts. Jack's totally clean ride was beyond good on a course that took eighteen off Iwan. Hugo Jervis looked good all day and came away with a deserved third place.

The adult intermediate class saw a 1,2,3 for lads who have come through the youth ranks of the YMSA with Ben Morris taking the win from Joe Collins and Eddy Dain taking third.

Adult novice saw another win for veteran Ian Margetts who can still show the young guys how to ride. Ash Hallows left his twinshock at home and rode a Gas Gas into second place whilse long time YMSA member Andy Land took his trusty mono Yamaha into third.

The ever popular green route was won by long time Derbyshire ace Mark Hallows followed by Mark Mazengarb and Andy Cantrill.

The first round of the 2018 YMSA championship will be held on the 11th of February at Burycliffe Quarry.
