British Youth C&D Series Gets Underway

Billy Green At 2014 British Youth CD Championship Round 1 - ScarboroughBilly GreenThe 2014 Luscombe Suzuki Leeds ACU Youth C&D Trials Championship got underway this weekend at the excellent Low North Camp venue of Scarborough & District Motor Club where some 54 potential Trials stars of the future from as far afield as the Scottish Highlands, The Isle of Man and Northern Ireland undertook their first challenge of the season. Despite a thunderstorm and torrential rain on Friday evening, Saturday remained mostly dry for the competition, though the rain had made the clay-like soil of the venue very slippery with any kind of traction proving elusive for many.

On the C Class Standard Wheel route, Billy Green - RCM Beta was top lad on the day with a narrow one point win over Daniel Slack - Beta whose late challenge, dropping just a single dab on his final lap, wasn't quite enough to put him in top spot. These top two riders totally outclassed the competition with Mitchell Brightmore, who took the remaining podium spot some way behind.

Over on the C Class Medium Wheel route, Normandy's Jack Dance - Merlin Gas Gas was dancing indeed when his steady riding and constant lap score improvements saw him end the day with a comfortable seventeen point margin over second placed Harvey Mosley - Beta. Local lad, Elliott Woodall - Trials Monkey Beta also saw his scores improve throughout the day despite the ongoing slippery conditions, but didn't quite manage to pip Mosley for second place and had to settle for third spot on the podium.

Whilst the C Class riders were battling it out, the competition was no less intense in the D Class. On the Medium Wheel Route, Jamie Galloway - Beta made the long trip down from Dunfermline in Fife worthwhile by taking home the silverware with a thirteen point margin over Henry Stephenson - Trials UK Beta after Stephenson had what could only be described as a nightmare second lap. However, undettered by this, he recovered well on his third and final visit of the day with a lap score of eight - his best of the day, but by that point the damage was done and he had to settle for second place. Completing the podium in this class was Harvey Child - Beta who, although some way back from the leading twosome, again showed steady improvement throughout the day and did enough to keep the challenge from ultimate fourth place finisher, Libby Cook - Beta at bay.

Finally, on the C Class Small Wheel route, the full-on riding style of Harry Hemingway (we wonder where he gets that from!) - Trials UK OSET saw him romp home with a convincing win, dropping just four marks for the entire day including riding clean through the first lap. Ultimate second placed Harry Turner came close to riding his final lap clean, but the tough eleventh section, which he'd struggled with all day was to once again be his nemesis. Three points there spoiled an otherwise perfect scorecard. Despite this, he still did enough to claim his second place and fight off the challenge from Dominic Horne - Trials UK OSET who took the remaining podium position.
