Hi everybody,

You must forgive me for bringing this subject up but I think it is a valid query, so I ask you all to bear with me.

A while ago I bought a copy of Steve Saunders' book 'A complete guide to motorcycle trials On trial, my life in motorcycle trials'.

For one reason and another I did not have a good look at it until quite recently.

On reading chapter 7 "how to ride' I had a feeling of de ja vu.

On delving further into the text a lot of the content seemed familiar and I got out my copy of the publication entitled "Ride it! the complete book of motorcycle trials by Don Smith".

I was surprised and puzzled to find that whole swaths of chapter 9 "Riding the hazards" had been reproduced verbatim in Steve's book.

I was expecting there to be an acknowledgement of the original author somewhere within the pages or in the "Finally, thank you' afterword at the end of Saunder's book but I could find no mention of the original author and, on further investigation I found that the publishers claim copyright for the Saunders book with no acknowledgement of Don Smith's material or the original publishers of the material.

I contacted Steve Saunders about my concerns and, apart from saying that he was going to contact his publishers and that he did not know anything about material being taken from Don Smith's book and that he had never set eyes on a copy, he dismissed my rather tongue in cheek enquiry about a refund if I returned the book as " I do not feel this to be appropriate" ( That was me told then, ) and I have heard nothing more from him.

I also contacted Don Smith's publishers and had an acknowledgement of my email and not much further.

I then contacted John Hulme and got a short note back saying he noted my comments and that he now considered communication closed on the subject! I emailed him back saying that wasnt going to work and asking him directly how it was that whole passages had been lifted from Don Smith's book to appear under his publishing company's copyright in Steve Saunder's book. Nothing heard!

Don Smiths book is out of copyright so they are probably clear on that score.

There remains the concern about an author and publisher claiming someone else's work as their own.

Anyone else find this sort of thing distasteful?

Regards,

Joe Henderson.

This farmer has about 500 hens, but no rooster, and he wants chicks

badly.

So, he goes down the road to the next farm and asks if they have a

rooster that they would sell.

The other farmer says, 'Yes, I've got this great rooster, named Kenny.

He'll service every chicken you've got, no problem.'

Trouble is, Kenny the rooster costs $3,000, a lot of money, but the

Farmer decides he'd be worth it. So, he buys Kenny.

The farmer takes Kenny home and sets him down in the barnyard, but

first he gave the rooster a pep talk. 'I want you to pace yourself now.

You've got a lot of chickens to service here, and you cost me a lot of

money.

Consequently, I'll need you to do a good job. So, take your time and

have some fun,' the farmer said, with a chuckle.

Kenny seems to understand, so the farmer points toward the hen house

and Kenny takes off like a shot. WHAM! Kenny nails every hen in the hen

house - three or four times, and the farmer is really shocked.

After that, the farmer hears a commotion in the duck pen and, sure

enough, Kenny is in there.

Later, the farmer sees Kenny after a flock of geese down by the lake.

Once again - WHAM! - All the geese get it.

By sunset he sees Kenny out in the fields chasing quail and pheasants.

The farmer is distraught and worried that his expensive rooster won't

even last the night. Sure enough, the farmer goes to bed and wakes up the

next morning to find Kenny on his back out in the middle of the yard, mouth

open, tongue hanging out and both feet sticking straight up in the air with

Buzzards circling overhead.

The farmer, saddened by the loss of such a colourful and expensive

animal, shakes his head and says, 'Oh, Kenny, I told you to pace yourself.

I tried to get you to slow down, now look what you've done to yourself.'

Kenny slowly opens one eye, nods toward the buzzards circling in the sky

above and says,

'Shut it, you're scarin the fanny away.

A few questions about the way things stand at the moment regarding the EU.

The wife is from the Rep of Ireland and holds an EU passport . I myself hold a British passport.

Am I able to pass through the EU citizens passport border control with the wife or would I have to join the NON EU queue?

Do the visa requirements for longer stays in the EU still apply to me as a British passport holder?

I have Googled for answers but there is nothing concrete and it seems to be for people entering the UK not the other way.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for any replies.

Watched tv programme about Captain Tom last night Thursday and if I can make it to his age and be as mentally able etc I will be well pleased. What a man and really into motorcycles big time. Plenty of film showing old trials back in the 30’s with Scotts and flat tankers being ridden forcefully through mud, rivers and up hills. To think that this gentleman managed to raise millions for the NHS by shear determination in pushing himself to walk a great distance all be it in his garden (daughters garden) whilst in great pain from a damaged hip! When women were mentioned you could detect that glint in his eyes...a bit of a lad me thinks. Brilliant.

I have a Cotton 250cc Trials bike 1966 and the engine is currently undergoing a rebuild. It was a long time ago the Villiers 250cc 37A engine came out, but I remember there was a definite problem with removing the rear engine fixing bolt. So when it comes to re-installing, what is going to be the best way to get the engine in and feed the 65mm rear securing bolt into place without taking off an outer casing? Can it be done?

Is there a special method, such as a hole in the casing to feed the bolt through or has the right hand cover got to come off before putting the engine back in place?

Can anyone advise on best course of action as I would rather get engine back in all together.
