  1. Mark, how would a £150 a year (or more) license improve trials ?

If the money was put back into develpment and promotion it would.

I'm not saying that the SACU of old would be able to deliver that, but if they change into a body that truly fosters and encourages motorcycle sport they could.

But if they dont get the chance we will never know.

  2. Steam, you should try riding the Scott.

The last thing you care about is getting the wrong score in a section. :)

The organising is Unbelievable, about 80 sections, each with at least two observers, and 80 miles of flagging, all off road.

The best one day trial in the world.

  3. stevie well done.

really fancy joining you but don't think i could keep up with your 18mph average. - going for 'the tour' next year??

how about doing all six days routes? with some modifications to miss the open moors you could have some cracking rides.

    got me thinking now...............

  4. Just want to say a huge thank you for a great weekend - three of us travelled down from Scotland and were made so welcome by everyone. So many good bits (particularly the hilltop tracks looking down over the Cotswolds; chugging through ancient villages; getting up a long muddy track sideways flat out in 2nd while Davy and Ian fell of their bikes laughing; and nearly making it up Camp engulfed in a trail of Castrol R smoke); - the only frustration for me was having a pocketful of duff spark plugs to keep the old bike going - (note to myself don't buy Champion plugs again) - thank you to all who stopped and helped me get going.

Not only a superb motorcycle event but topped off by a great social night with some of the best live jazz music i've heard - we had a ball. (and in true Scottish tradition were the last standing at the bar on Sat night)

The Club put on a fantastic event and if you weren't there you missed yourself. - be sure to catch it in 2111.

Our weekend was topped off with 3 hours 'lost' in the National Motorcycle museum on the way home.

    A weekend to remember.

    thanks guys

  5. Gordon Jackson is not only going to the SSDT but he is going to RIDE in the event!

Yes he is planning to ride the very bike he won on in '61with his famous one dab ride. :- in Sundays parade.

More special guests and bikes will be joining him along with the 275 lucky competitors.

More details will be announced soon.

    YOU NEED TO BE THERE.

  6. Don't worry - we have some interesting little excursions lined up for you.

The problem is at the moment they are all under 12" of frozen snow !!

As for getting back from Forest Gate on Tuesday - wait and see - :crying:

but its not the Corryaraick Pass - that will be under 12 feet of snow at the moment!

  7. in brief

1909 was the first 5 day trial

1910 was the first 6 day trial

the Edinburgh & District motor club was formed in 1911 and took over the running of the SSDT - so the first E&DMC SSDT was 1911

the centenary was decided 50 years ago when the club decided to celebrate the 50th aniversary in 1961 and this was continued at its 75th aniversary.

so 2011 is the official centenary of the event and also the E&DMClub.

    hope this helps.

  8. I still believe there should be no events on Remembrance Sunday, there is always the Saturday prior to ride bikes if clubs want to organise an event.

As some folk on here have already said, it's not just the two World conflicts we remember, there are soldiers losing their lives across in Afganistan right now!

As for charity trial suggestions, sure, good idea, but run it on the Saturday instead, as far as I know the ACU would be happy to allow this, the facility is always there in Scotland with the SACU!

  9. the location is just off the road up to the leanachan chairlift complex (the one in slapshots post) - it is a new cattlemarket which can have all of the pens stripped out leaving a massive inside space - the adjacent carpark is also very big.

if you put this into streetmap it gives the location NN161779

i have a photo if i can work out how to link it to this post

  10. The SSDT organisers are constantly looking forward to the future of the event.

One factor that becomes more and more difficult is the management of the West End carpark.

This years bad weather highlighted some of the disadvantages with the venue as it must be one of the most exposed start areas in the trials world !

Another major problem is car parking and this has got to the point of detracting from the general competitor and

    spectator experience.

The organisers of the SSDT are currently considering a move to the Lochaber Rural Complex - this location is within a few miles of Fort William (beside Nevis range ski centre) offering under-cover secure facilities for the parc-ferme and traders stalls, a caf

  11. Leanachen was exceptionally entertaining last year with the totally unexpected water levels. :D

OTH - I heard a sluice was left open further up the hill. Was that the case?

Yup - all sorted for this year though - we had to ease Thursdays sections at Leanachan last year due to the water levels however this year we don't !!!!!!!!!! :D

hopefully this year Thursday at Leanachan will make up for the disappointment last year when we had to pull them out due to the lost fuel wagon ! - if Perce was riding i doubt he'd be feet up

Trials riders have a lot to thank sheep for!............................................................................

Whilst taking part I got to chatting with Mark Whitham, the SSDT clerk of the course, and asked when the Scottish routes will be announced. They are unlikely to be announced this week, but should be available next week. He tells me that there are still some decisions to be made regarding some new groups they have located, but he also told me Monday’s confirmed route. Whilst I cannot divulge what Monday’s planned route is to be, I can tell you that it is nothing like anything that has been plotted before and seems to me to be a very tough first day. What I can confirm is that it will finish at Lagnaha, which of course is always the most popular and readily accessible spectator group.

Yes we have a rearranged monday which will get you into the groove :o with a bang !! - the first moor of the morning is inaccessible to sheep - maybe mountain goats should be thanked for this one
