Banyeres Trials Parts services Showa trials shocks and sells Showa trials shock parts. The Banyeres website lists Showa SS25 as the official rear suspension oil.

It's 2.5W. But 2.5W rated oils can vary a fair amount. There are comparison tables online. Honda sells an SS-25 rear suspension oil under the Pro Honda name that may be the same stuff.

I believe the Pro Honda SS-25 is the same fluid as the Showa-branded SS25.

  2. We've had several TY80 cranks rebuilt using conrod kits from Yambits, all came with thrust washers, none were used because the assembled crank would have been too wide with them installed.  Our crank rebuilder rarely if ever uses them unless there is excessive wear on the crank throws.

Yes they are heavily modded, those extension plates are 7 mm thick....TIG or stick weld needed if you use similar. They do bend as well so I use a tool to lever them back into position....its a weight thing?. You will notice that the original footrest stubs are retained so grinding off the welds means I can return the bike to standard quite easily.

Because of the rear brake pedal location you can get away with the original brake cable, the adjuster just has to be wound in further. The brake pedal stop bolt is too long ( just in case any eagle eyed viewer comments) its a new bolt and it will be shortened...another weight thing. Also the airbox is missing....I’m making a replacement....read made a replacement.?

Welding equipment is no problem, overthinking the relocation mods were.  I was moving more towards removing those huge OE footpeg lugs and fabbing frame plates for the peg mounts, but relocating the brake pedal cleanly had me a tad stumped.  Your solution has me thinking in another direction, and I think it will be a lot cleaner and MUCH less involved than my original idea.  Thanks for the pics and the descriptions!

As for now, it's loaded in the trailer alongside the 4RT for some Trials fun in Texas this weekend.  B)

Hijack over.  Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

My 348 has modded footrests S3 pegs, lowered and back mounting plates so the footrest no longer acts as a kicker stop. I’m considering a simple drop down bar fitted in the original footrest mount hole...we’ll see?

Not to derail this thread, but do you have pics of your footrest mods?  I'd love to upgrade my MRR.

  5. To what end?  Do you enjoy listening to the constant drone of an external fuel pump all day long?  Fabricating a plate for the fuel tank?  Plumbing an external fuel filter and fitting said plumbing into the injector?  Determining the exact voltage to make the external pump run without taxing the OE fuel pump wiring harness/stator/regulator?  Lots of work involved to replace something that works just fine the way it is.  Why the desire for an external pump?

  6. 25:1??  I run Motul 710 at 60:1 in aviation fuel in all the air-cooled Trials bikes I have (TY80, 304 Montesa, 348 Montesa, 305 Fantic....) with no problems at all.  Pistons, rings, bearings and cranks are all happy and no drooling goo.  Modern oils are SOOO much better than the goop that was available when that manual was printed.  Just sayin'.

Careful guys.... I was reading in a UK bike magazine yesterday about a guy who found a Honda TL250 on Craigslist in the US for a decent price so shipped it back to the UK... We already have enough of  tough time finding good bikes we don't need the UK shipping them all out of the country

As much stuff (both new and used) that I've bought out of the UK, I figure it's a wash.
