  1. Get it started up and get the bike warm/hot. Then get a small flat blade screwdriver and just set the idle so the bike is idling okay. Then move the airscrew until you find the highest idle point. That is the correct airscrew position for your bike. Make sure it will accelerate fine with no hesitation or sluginess. This is the best way to set your airscrew. Every engine is different so tune your engine how it likes to be.

    Brake drums

    Usually you will need to take the hub out of the rim then any good engineering shop should be able to do it. Ask around in Motorcycle shops near you or look on this page for ads if you`re in England.
  3. Try any Bultaco shop. Also Amal Carburettors in England.
  4. Start off by just checking all the connections in the system. If it still has the standard screw terminal under the tank pull all of those out and make sure all the wire ends are clean. Maybe give the lighting coil in the mag a clean with some fine sandpaper too. Does the brake light still work?
  5. Being tall is no reason not to ride. You can still get higher rise handlebars or buy some bar risers. The 1979 world Champion is well over 6 foot high. You can also move the footpegs back and down with some modern footpegs which makes them ride a lot better. Once you have the knack they are easy to start. They do like to be timed regularly though. Go for it!
  6. May be try Peter at Bultaco Australia. Also ask at any English bike spares shop as almost all of the old Triumphs, BSA and all the others used Amal controls.
  7. Hi Bultoboy. As far as I know it was on the MK 8 Pursangs which was 1975 or so. It happened because the USA government made a law which said that all road going motorcycles sold in the USA had to shift on the left and rear brake had to be on the right. The MK 7s only had right side shift.
  8. I use 80/90 weight car hypoid gear oil in the gearbox. 550cc if just changing it or 600cc if you have had it apart. Primary side I have been using a motorcycle 10/30 weight gear oil. 250cc is just changing it or 300cc if you have had it apart. Premix I have been using Castrol TTS or Power 1 Racing they call it now with the highest octane premium petrol you can get at 50 to 1.

    Just going from memory I think there are 6 drive plates and 5 driven plates. Try that and see how that works.

    On that photo it looks like there is a ball bearing missing or there is one to many clutch plates in there.
  11. Most either use the standard points or put a CDI system in them.
  12. I`m not real sure what gearing the M49s had but all the later ones 11/46 works pretty well and this is for a 520 chain.
  13. In our club we have been running the Summer Practice Series as Gate Trials. No rewards in this format. We set each section with a possible 11 points on offer. This is because our scorecards have 0,1,2,3 and 5 on the cards. 11 all up. It is a fun Trial as it is oppo.site to what you normally do. The most points at the end of the day wins!

    The OKO is a very good carb. I have 3 of them on my 350 Sherpa T`s. Dennis is the bloke who runs TrialTech Moto. Make sure you get the real ones and not the Chinese ones. They are crap!
  15. The one outside my front door is a late 5000 number and it is the same as your late one David.
  16. A modern Trials bike is a lot lighter and easier to ride. If I was you I would be looking for a 200 or a 250. The modern bikes weigh around 65 to 68 kilos so much lighter!
  17. Over here in Australia it is in the Motorcycling Australia rules for Trials it states that all tyres apart from Sidecar chair tyres must be a Trials Universal pattern. No sizes are specified though.
  18. Here are my three. All 350 Sherpa Ts. A M159, a M199 and a M199B with a M151 engine. I mainly use the 199B although I`m letting 2 others ride the 159 and the 199 this weekend at our Twinshock Masters event.

    MAR Forks

    Seeing as the MAR forks are Betor and I`m assuming the TR80 ones are also Betor they should be the same thread. The longer legs will fit. Just be careful with which damper rods you use. I don`t know if the later model ones had more travel in them.

    Sherpa 199b

    Hi Ninja. The rear brake backing plate is the same on all of the Sherpas from around the model 92 or so I believe. Any Bultaco with a 125mm brake will be the same. Some of the earlier ones had 2 pins on the non cam side of the shoe..
  22. Maybe also try Bultaco Classic in the USA or Bultaco Australia. They may have some left.

    The ball in between your pushrod and the mushroom should be the same size as the pushrod.
  24. If you are in England just buy one from In Motion Trials. Have a look on their webpage. Nearly all of the Femsa flywheels use the same size. I know the 100cc Lobitos use the normal Femsa pullers..
  25. The red wire is your brake light one. I can`t remember what the grey one is for. I will be able to look tomorrow though. I do have an owners manual for a M213 but it isn`t here.
