  1. I guess it depends on the bike and the size of the chain. Would be good if that's the case. The only place I can see is perhaps around the frame just above the foot peg behind the carb and above the drive chain??
  2. What is a good way of physically securing a modern trials bike. Enduro bikes can be chained through the frame but I can't see a way of doing that with a trials bike. It looks like you could chain it up but it would be easy to unbolt forks or wheels to remove the chain. Even if you removed both wheels, they are so light that a single man could just carry it off. Short of keeping it in a cage, I can't see how you can secure the bike within a locked garage. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the feedback. It's just a matter of time before I get something but I'm just a novice/clubman so although I can afford a new one, it seems like an extravagance if I can get a couple year old mint one for half the price. But I want a bike that will last and has as few problems as possible. Decent second hand 250s are fairly rare it seems.

    2017 Vs 2019

    Have there been any significant changes between 2017 and 2019 on the TRSs? Given that it's a newish bike, I wonder if there are reliability or bug fixes that have been done? I know the "marketing" changes won't make any difference to how I ride the bike but there are changes this year to the engine and clutch etc. Thanks.
  6. Four stroke by a mile. Two strokes can sound a bit more intrusive but they are nowhere near as loud and the sound carries much further. Of course there will be exceptions but the 4RT is loud. Don't know about the beta.
  7. I really enjoy watching the old videos but one thing that was immediately clear to me was that no-stop is the way to go for spectators as the stop allowed sections get a bit silly. Despite all the changes and efforts to make it better viewing/competition you'll never get away from the fact there are a handful of riders that are in a separate league to the rest of mankind, so to make it competitive for them, it's going to make it too hard for the rest. It's a shame but then that's where the sport is and is likely to remain. To be a champion now, you need to be a genetic freak and have dedicated your youth to trials and have the drive to do so. Nothing in the rules will change that now. More coverage is the only way to grow the sport but it is esoteric by nature.

Whatever the reasons behind this change, I sincerely hope they keep up the coverage and YouTube vids etc. Watching them has greatly increased my interest in trials and although I agree it's another world from a local club trial, it has to be good for the sport and the industry in general. In terms of sections, anything that removes the hop and bop element is a good thing in my amateur eyes. I do like watching the Japanese and British rounds because it does show up those that aren't as used to mud.
  9. Well that sure makes me feel better.... ?But yes, my justification for buying a new bike and entering events is that it helps the industry and keeps the sport going for the younger generation.... Not at all because I still think I'm 21 and can one day be good at this.. no no.

Problem is, I watch videos of good riders all week and then my expectation of what I should be doing gets somewhat unrealistic, followed by a very quick and disappointing crash down to earth when I realise I can barely ride in a straight line.. certainly do not feel like a hero.... God, Trials is frustrating.
  11. £17!!! The TRS top and trousers are £175 from SXS! I expect I'd have some if they were being thrown in. Although they wouldn't fit.. Factory rep bike and kit, falling off at the first section... Yep, that's me! Mind you, when I was struggling in the mud today and having a bit of a mare, I was having a second thought about dropping £6k on a new bike.. something to be said about having an old knackered bike that owes you nothing.
  12. I know very little about trials so my opinion is worth diddly, but to me, I wonder why on earth anyone would buy a Montesa (or any 4 stroke) anyway, other than the fact it's what Bou rides. I truly do not understand why the average person is influenced by what the top level riders (in any sport) are using. But then I want a brand new bike whereas I'm sure a ten year old model would be more than sufficient for my ambitions of one day being an ok clubman - so I can talk! I'm actually reticent to buy a new bike and be seen (rightly) as someone with all the gear and no idea... WRT the kit - yes, I was wondering if it was simply that the kit was easy to buy at a good price when buying the bike so people are happy to treat themselves at the time.
  13. But seriously... Why specifically the TRS owners?? Is it that some really good riders are going to TRS and they're the ones most likely to go for the "factory" look? I've also noticed the riders seem to have a more aggressive hop and bop riding style. Is that the bike or the rider?.
  14. That of all the brands, it seems like TRS riders are the most likely to go full "power ranger" with the TRS clothing? Do they come cheap with the bike or does the bike attract a certain type (like with BMWs). I'm a tart and I'd like a shiny new TRS RR but I don't think I could bring myself to wear the kit too... But then I'm a fat old man.. Thoughts? ?
  15. Putting a thicker base gasket certainty softened my 270, as does running it a bit richer. I did use a slow throttle to start with but have now moved up to the normal throttle as it makes steps and big logs much easier.
  16. I too use a rack. I use it to carry my trials and enduro bikes. Enduro bikes clearly exceed the nose weight of all non-land rover type cars. It took some effort but I had my insurance company send me an email explicitly stating that my insurance was in no way I validated by carrying either the trials bike or an enduro bike on a purpose built rack. I run a strap all the way around the enduro bike and through the back doors and it locks the bike tight against a foam pad against the boot. The trials bike gets a strap from the handle bar to the roof bars. I can't believe some people just have the bike bouncing around out there without such a strap. The main issue with the nose weight is that it does reduce the downforce on the front wheels so braking distances are extended. As such, if you go in to the back of someone or have an accident then I think the police and insurance company may well get interested in the technical details.

  18. Choke working? Try turning the air screw in a fair bit and see if that helps the starting.

    I've just been looking at pictures of the One compared to the RR. It looks like the footpegs on the RR are tilted forward more than the One. I guess this is because experts spend more time on the back wheel than novices but it was a bit of a surprise. Has anyone else noticed this? Reckon it would make any real difference to feel?

  23. I have read that the 300 is a real experts bike and very aggressive. Coupled with the RR extra snap I wonder if that's a fair comparison? Of course you're a very experienced rider so maybe it won't make that much difference to you. I really wish the beta didn't have the gear issue... And wasn't red... I just do not like red bikes. Lol
  24. Yep. Me too. I was pretty much convinced the beta would be the wise choice but you can't overlook something like that. I'm going to try and test the TRS one and RR back to back and see what I think. I've had a little spin on the One and it is very light and a lot snappier than my knackered old rev. I'd prefer the RR if I'm honest but not if it's too much bike.

    All good points but I'm guessing you've always bought new and never kept one for more than a year? Have you had both the one and the RR? Any particular difference to the ride?
