Hello redandwhitebri,  Were you able to solve your Alpina 350 M116 lighting/wiring/coil problem since November? I have an Alpina 350 M213 with similar brake light problem, and would be interested in what was discovered, and how it was fixed. Cheers, Gabe

You’re not alone, I’m still trying to get my brake light working, currently trying a separate battery circuit to see if that will work.

  2. It’s a long time since I last did mine, but from memory removed everything you can - tank, seat, exhaust, side panels, put the bike on it’s side and lift out. If you’re going to paint the frame whilst it’s apart put lots of protection on it before refitting the engine…

    This is my honest opinion.

Inmotion have been working with Bultacos for several decades. They know what they are talking about. Have a look at their shocks. They are very Betor lookalike.

My guess is that  Sherpa shocks can do equally well as Alpina shocks assuming they fit well and you have no intention doing motocross or extremely hard riding.

Mount the Betor with the cylinder facing upwards and the tighter wounds of spring also facing upwards in order to keep the unsprung weight low.

I’ve known Dave since the mid 70’s, we rode schoolboy trials together :).  I’ve had a response from Betor today, apparently all their Alpina shocks are the same, it’s only the spring colour that changes. I only do mild greenlaning on it so no great stress.

You'll need to say which Betor shocks you are referring to if you want fitment help on here

Fair point, the chrome spring ones, 340mm centres, are listed on the Betor website as 9340CGMC and for the Alpina 85, 137, 165 & 187. For the 213 the part number is 9340 - hang on, I’ve just check again and since Friday the part number on the website has changed!! It’s now the same as the others but is 10€ more!

    I’m confused…

  5. Hi all

I need to replace the rear shocks, I’m staying with Betor for originality but their website lists black springs for the 213, but the originals were chrome. They do list others for earlier Alpinas with chrome springs with the correct length and mounting size, but will they fit? I have tried their customer service but no help. Inmotion list the same shock for all Alpina models soI guess I should be OK…

It’s been a while, but having drained out all of the fuel and repainted the exhaust  I’ve got it running again, though a couple of times it started making a loud rattling noise! I took the clutch cover off (not easy tracing engine noises) but nothing amiss in there, so just hoping it doesn’t return.

I’ve not ridden much lately, but I’m still getting the death rattle, though intermittently- any ideas please? I’ve had the clutch cover off but nothing amiss there, strange that it doesn’t do it all the time.

  8. A few weeks ago I made a mistake - I left the fuel tap on, which coincided with a stuck float in the carb, went into the garage after being away for a week to a strong smell of petrol. Stripped and cleaned the carb and all sorted.

But, today decided to repaint the exhaust, so started to remove it when petrol started pouring out of the exhaust port! I put a tray underneath, removed the plug and gently turned over the engine - got about half a litre out so far… I’ve squirted a bit of oil down the plug hole and turned the engine over a few times, but the question is will I have done any damage? The crank seals are new - I replaced them a couple of months back - should I pull off both side covers to see if any fuel has got through?

    Thanks

  9. Having given it a quick clean there was still something a bit loose inside, so I opened up the other side and found the packing was shot (already removed when I took the photo), so will replace this with stainless wire wool.

  10. Had a loud rattle from the back of the bike (Alpina 213), so pulled off the rear silence and give it a shake - something heavy adrift inside. I thought I’ve nothing to lose so took the disc cutter to it:

Having fished it out it appears to be the same size as the lower tailpipe, but where does it belong?
