Another vote for Stu Day - had a really interesting day with him and my son last October. He started with the basics and explained fundamental techniques (clearly) that I have not heard explained before. Really good!
Had exactly this problem - fixed it by shortening the vent tubes on the carb and cutting the ends at an angle. The ends can sit in a puddle on the bash-plate and draw water into the carb. Worth a try!
I have a 2013 Big Wheel Beta 80 Evo with a non-standard rear wheel (with a flanged rim), the rim offset of which is not correct - I cannot get the wheel in line with the front without it fouling on the chain guard. Offset looks to be about 6mm off.
I would like to get the wheel rebuilt, so could someone kindly measure the rim offset of a standar rear wheel? Ideally rear disc to rim edge, but not fussy as long as you tell me what you have measured!
Since the bike is down and have plenty of time. Read up on the finger height and clutch pack measurement. Also many swear by the Beta clutch fix. There also several videos out on this subject. Before anything the finger height has to be with in specs.
The important bit about the Beta clutch fix is breaking the sharp edges on the tangs that do the driving on the friction plates (and the equivalent bits of the plain plates). A gentle "lead" allows the movement of the plates that is necessary to free the clutch. It is a mod I would do to any bike I own (even a brand new one!)
Frodsham trials club will be running an electric-only route tomorrow at Mouldsworth Sand Quarry. See http://www.ifm-moto.com/?page_id=2248 for details.
Could the ACU not offer registration with or without club memberships, at different prices, with the difference being distributed to the clubs running trials? A sort of optional club levy?
One more thing to check is that the swingarm is freely pivoting on its bearings. I had a 2001 250 Rev3 that was awful until I found the swingarm was nipping up when the swingarm spindle was tightened up - I think it had been assembled incorrectly. Friction dampers suck!
Forks and Yokes were bought from Ellastone Offroad - not sure how much Honda stuff they have these days. The Yen is a bit strong for importing container loads of bits from Japan.
Pics of my Honda are in the Garage section (with original forks) - great looking bikes!
Not sure - I keep meaning to investigate but never get round to it. Bigger bump stop rubbers/spacer might do the job by just limiting the travel a bit.
Standard forks are harsh, and standard yokes have 2.5 deg offset which kicks the front wheel out a long way. A changed the forks for TLM forks and the yokes for TLR yokes (with 1.5 deg of offset) - much better action and steering much improved.
