  1. Very neat looking Hydraulic clutch conversion. I have a TL320. Gear Oil - I use ATF fluid but can't see a problem with what you have suggested, and yes you remove the SHCS behind the gear lever to set the level. Key thing to do is to remove the drain plug (using a Hex Drive) and not the kickstart stop bolt (which has a Hex Head) when draining the oil. Premix - every answer is valid depending on how you want to ride the bike, I normally ride at 80:1 in competition trials but if you are doing trail work I would look at 50:1 with the modern synthetic oils. Suspension - If you just bottom on trails then you are probably set up perfect for a competition trials event. MotoSWM in the UK are most helpful for parts and information.
  2. Key is to try and get an oil with a low burning temperature (flash point). Have a look at the oils in your shop and pick one that is on the lower end of the burning temperature as Trials motors generally don't get hot enough to correctly burn the most fantastic fully synthetic oils designed for race bikes.
  3. 200 has 50cc less capacity but benefits from 1 extra gear which makes travelling on road sections easier. Believe the 250's are slightly steeper in the front end but someone will correct that.
  4. My experience with the Beta is they are lacking compared to the Mont in power, so it would feel sluggish in comparison. Obviously if it has the slow action tube fitted that wouldn't help matters.

    Throttle

I assume you are currently using the fast action throttle tube (White in colour, as opposed to the slow action black).
  6. In Motion in the UK are selling new stanchions, if your stanchions are more than just a little rusty you might find it will be more cost effective to purchase new items.
  7. What speed is your idle set at? Ensure you have not put too much oil onto the air filter.
  8. I assume it is not hard to turn when the spindle nut is loose? Have you fitted the same bush/spacer that is placed inside the hub between the two wheel bearings on the spindle?
  9. GRO 75W Gear Extreme is a very good replacement for ELF
  10. Theoretically the woodruff key should not take any load from the engine at all, it only locates the flywheel correctly for timing purposes. I would be investigating the torque you are using to retain the flywheel onto the tapered fit. Also worth checking the tapered fit itself and maybe lapping it to correct if the fit/surface is poor.
  11. I'd be checking the throttle cable/carb. You might have a cable routing issue which is holding the slide slightly open.
  12. Use a coarse file to create some filings onto a piece of paper, set the piece of paper on fire and use it (the non-burning end) to sprinkle the filings into the flame. If they catch fire as they meet the flame its magnesium otherwise its aluminium.

    Gas Gas Help

If you can see the oil half way up the sightglass, with the bike level, you are at the correct oil level.
  14. Has anyone replaced or rebuilt the stock rear shock absorber on a Mecatecno Alevin?
  15. File the kickstart where it is getting jammed, they sometimes build a small piece of aluminium that hooks into the peg.
  16. Have you set the points gap correctly? If you can feel a charge at the spark plug you mustn't have too much wrong.
  17. If they are 10-12 feet up like marcelli was there should be some form of matting on the ground rather than a nice piece of concrete to crunch into. It wouldn't be too hard to get some foam and place a cover on it so it looked visually appealing for the crowd. With the size of the obstacles now in indoor comps they are lucky that they haven't injured anyone worse than Bou the other year.
  18. Most side stands have 2 mount points for the spring at the bracket that mounts to the swingarm. One point self retracts with the spring and the other one allows the spring to go past centre and hold the stand in position.
  19. The throttle has jammed on. In the event of the throttle jamming on you can pull the cable out of the twist grip control at the handle bars, purely by reefing it out, this will normally release the jammed throttle. Second option is to cover the exhaust outlet, if an engine can't expel gases it cant run. Also you could have jammed the brakes on and killed the engine that way. If you are lucky you have only destroyed the top end and the bottom end is still usable, it needs to be disassembled and checked.
  20. Not as simple as you've got the carby choke on making it rev or the new throttle cable has no free play and hence holding the carby slide open?
  21. This is the diagram from Schnoor on their Disc springs which illustrates the point about the non-linear spring rate of the belleville washer in the solid line. The force to compress the spring continually gets larger but the extra force required to continue compressing the spring from where it was is reducing. The coil spring would much more closely represent the linear line.
  22. Personally I have found that clutch drag was much worse with a diaphragm clutch than the basket clutch. I think the main advantage of the diaphragm clutch for the general punter is that the nonlinear spring rate has the effect of lengthening the zone at the lever in which you can slip the clutch. The basket clutch because of the linear rate reduces this length and makes the clutch feel more on/off. The diaphragms clutches advantage for the manufacturer is its cheaper to produce, less plates, 1 Belleville washer spring instead of 5 or 6 coil springs and generally less complex machining required. Another secondary advantage is the reduction in width that it affords. I think the only real advantage the basket clutches have is that due to the extra plates and also the linear spring rate the effect of plate wear on the clutch action is much less significant than with the diaphragm design. In saying all that I have no preference for either, it takes a small amount of time to adapt to each and only a minor amount of extra maintenance with the diaphragm.
  23. Montesa also made the 'King Scorpion' and 'Enduro' models, you don't need to limit yourself to the 'Cota'.
